This is a pleasant surprise. I enjoy your videos explaining the process you use to create such wonderful instruments. You've inspired me to attempt to make one.

Hi Espen, good video, clear instruction and relaxed manner go well together when teaching. Can you yell me how many strands you used for the strings on Gnaal? Would be great to hear a funeral march comparison. Keep doing what your doing , Cheers Martin.

@@mattblack8985 Thank you! I think I used 6, 9 and 12 on Gnaal.

but i guess it eats Up more Rosin because of the wax? normaly it not necessary to put Rosin on strings. have you also Made some experience where the thickness Limits for a nice swinging behaviour are?..since with horse Hair you have to Go for Steelstring at a certain deepness
@ELDRIMmusic16 күн бұрын
The resin on the strings is just to get started. The wax will go away quite fast. I have not made any thicker strings than on my bass taglharpa. I guess the deepest on that one is on the limit. Could maybe have made it a bit thicker though.

@@ELDRIMmusic and how many strains of dacron did you use for the deepest string at which scale and note?
@ELDRIMmusic16 күн бұрын
@@chrisvaupel 6 strands, 48,5cm tuned in C. Both the thick strings have the same tuning on the one in this video.

@@chrisvaupel On my bass taglharpa the deepest string has 12 strands, 63cm tuned in D

Am I alone in thinking horse hair sounds better? Or am I hearing wrong?
@ELDRIMmusic16 күн бұрын
There is no "hearing wrong" unless you listen through a mobile device. I prefer the Dacron because it gives more options in the EQ because of more frequencies in the higher area. The lower frequencies is almost identical. AND they keep in tune :)
@ELDRIMmusic16 күн бұрын
Oh, and the Dacron test was slightly out of tune. That might also make it less pleasant to listen to :)
@Mizamook15 күн бұрын
@@ELDRIMmusic Strings keeping in tune is a huge factor (says the guy who is annoyed at having to tune his 55 string bandura every day). I think what I was hearing in the horsehair example is a kind of pleasing throaty raspiness. The higher frequency component of the Dacron hid that a bit. One wonders also if twisting a few strands of horsehair into the string with the Dacron might give more of that character whilst allowing for improved tuning stability. I have only just begun to consider making a taglharpa, so when I do I can answer some of these questions myself. Thanks for the awesome video, by the way!
