Its nice to see a fathers point of view. My Son is on the Spectrum . It started around two years of age. Ive been raising him since he was three years old (9 now ) As a single parent. I remember the nights I would rock him to sleep. I would tear up ( cry ) at times thinking how it would be nice to just hear my Sons voice. He would stare at me and touch my face. He wouldnt talk verbally but his eyes knew what to say. I'd talk to him while he slept and he'd smile. Raising my Autistic Son is a Blessing. I wouldnt change a thing. Hes had my full attention and its made a difference. My son isnt on meds , is in regular classes, talks really well, comprehension is awesome, A/B Honor Roll, has friends and is The Light of My Life. Much Respect To All The Parents out there.

All people are individuals as are Autistic people. Know thyself. Learn about what co-morbitities are and recognize, these are not Autism itself. Stay positive. Conformity is not about being Autistic, it's about fear of difference.

I will be the first father in the comments to say that.... I F@#$%* up! My stepson is on the spectrum and I must say that there is so much that I wish I knew brfore the fact of knowing he had autism. I really F'ed up for years. I have apologized and am more aware of his needs and emotions now. It's hard as hell and I wish many more fathers had the information and guidance to approach the situations correctly. It's a real struggle. Men need to talk more amongst each other for solutions. It can even damage marriages if not treated properly. Be strong parents. BE STRONG MEN.

My 3 yr old grandson is autistic. His father is not in the picture at all, which is good bc he was very abusive to my daughter. I am the man in my grandson's life. I absolutely love my grandson, he is my world. It doesn't bother me that he's autistic, it helps explain a lot of his characteristics. I love him for who he is and how he is. Unfortunately, I hardly get to see him due to my daughter lives in another state with him and bc of covid it has made seeing them almost impossible.

I clicked on this video thinking it was about autistic fathers not fathers with autistic children, but it was still interesting. I never asked my dad what it was like for him when I got the diagnosis, because I was already an adult when it happened...I think it put some behaviour of his dad (which I suspect was probably autistic as well) in perspective. it'S kinda fun to see that several dads are working in highly specialised jobs and stuff like IT...which have a higher rate of autistic people compared to the general population . wouldn't be surprised if some of the dads weren't somewhere on the spectrum as well.

One of the best videos made, regarding parents of those with special needs. We hear sooo much from moms of those with autism. It is wonderful to hear how dads handle it, what they find the most challenging, the most memorable/proud milestones, how important their partner is to them in all this, and just seeing them so invested and so involved. I hope these videos continue to be made. They are very insightful and just plain awesome to see how proud and in love they are with their child with special needs. Every one of them light up when they speak about seeing their child happy, and I think that’s all we want for our kids- to know they will be ok and they are happy individuals.

This is what makes me frustrated Autism is not really a problem it just means the people fuelled by another program if you will. I think the problem is the focus on "they cant communicate properly" I mean yeah by the standards others have on what communication is that's true but I mean Animals don't speak they communicate in a different way we don't expect them to "talk" and communicate like neurotypical people and we accept that LOL and autistic people are mostly wired to be amazing at technology so there are so many apps and such to help out with communication nowdays. Because we don't meet the social standards of the masses or function like others do it automatically becomes that we are a problem. I mean there are times when Autism can be annoying but almost every person had a mental illness and such nowadays there are reasons for lots of people not to function as regular adults. Also many aspies have high IQ and are very smart. Yes we are challenged when it comes to physical contact but it is not a survival skill to hug or kiss people. It's not needed to survive. Why does a child need to want to be affectionate? I think it's usually for the other people's needs that they want them to be that way. Idk get a pet to substitute the affection you need but people don't need to be touchy and love hugging it's fine. As they say if you want the Autism symptoms to be gone put us in our rooms and close the door lol I think all we want in the end is to be accepted how we are and not be pushed to be like the neurotypical functioning. Problems solved

I lol just wish my son represented this at all. He is angry , upset, ungrounded would be the best word for it. He has night terrors , wakes up in the morning screaming for hours on end without reason. Nearly anything can make him lose his ground. ABA had been great for basic communication but he is relentless day in and day out. He is very intelligent though , smart enough to know how to dig under your skin until you break. These children just seemed so mild in comparison. Much love for everyone who opened up for this documentary! 💙❤️💚

I used to have a LOT of meltdowns. Let me tell you something. First off, there's a chance he will calm down eventually. Although, it may have to take years or decades. My dad has a theory that we have different "ages;" physical (actual age), mental, and emotional. My "emotional age" moved very slow. But, eventually I calmed down. Second off, it's just as hard for your child as it is for you. We cannot control meltdowns. It's impossible, it's difficult. I didn't get a better treatment as a kid, so I can't tell you what properly works, but I think you should maybe try to avoid triggers and, when he's upset, try to find a way to calm him down. Now, important note, holding him down or trying to get him to shut up WILL NOT CALM HIM DOWN. IT WI MAKE IT WORSE. HE WILL SCREAM EVEN MORE. Try to be understanding, and try to find some ways to help. For example, sensory activities can help. Maybe if they get a stim toy or use some slime or whatever. Also, if they're overwhelmed by their environment, you can give them headphones and glasses. Also, please try to be understanding with the coping mechanisms. If it doesn't work for him, move on. Acting like the basic normal few coping mechanisms will make him believe that nothing works and that there's no hope and he will just be "naughty" his whole life. Also, not to mention, it's not good to call your child "naughty" for that. Again, he's struggling

You were traumatized, so you want to traumatize other kids in turn. If not, then, maybe you should've been punished and beaten more? I mean, since you clearly have a behavior problem and don't know how to respect people who know better than you...

This was such a good video, from the perspective of different fathers with children who are under the autism spectrum. Each child is unique and special. After watching many videos and documentaries on autism, I found the ones by Dr. Temple Grandin (who has autism herself), to be very informational and a great resource for families dealing with autism. Dr. Grandin helps give hope to many families and children. I can't say enough about her. I wish the best for all of you.

Great Job on this and great to see some dads come forward and speak. There is a lack of info and support for Dads out there that needs to be addressed if we really want to succeed.

As a father of three children with Autism the stories shared in this film resonate so much, thank you for making it. Autism has changed my life completely, it lead me to get qualified as a Hypnotherapist and Master practitioner of NLP, so I can help other dads work through the emotional roller coaster ride that is raising a child with Autism.

My significant other daughter is meeting all the markers for autism. He is in severe denial and struggling to handle me talking even about therapies with him. I am so worried he won't come out of it and precious time and progress is missed. I've started taking a course to become a certified ABA tech. So I can do it with her. I just want to help her. I wish I could help him too. I hope I can get him to watch this. We both have daughters the same age. I know that's even harder on him seeing the girls grow further and further apart developmentally. I am so proud of how my daughter helps her Thank you dad's for sharing your story

My daughter is a single mother, we have been having my grandson evaluated and tested over the last year for Autism. It was confirmed two weeks ago that my grandson is Autistic. It has been challenging at times for my daughter and for me. We are trying to learn as much as we can, watch a lot of videos, and research as much as we can. I find that so many things he does or the way his brain works is very interesting and fascinating. I am also having to practice a lot of patience with my grandson as to sometimes he wants to be around me and sometimes he wants nothing to do with me. The hardest part is wondering how his relationship with me will be as he grows up.

🥰🥰🥰🥰 that there is finally something put together regarding fathers. Anything out there seems to almost always be mom-centred. While that all fine, fathers absolutely NEED wht other fathers are going through or have been through. These fathers are bang on correct about becoming a better person. Having a special needs child will make you or break you. Community is crucial. Now I need to go find one. Hubs and I have been at it alone for too long already. Our son is going to be a teenager this summer. We may need any and all help we can get.
