I've seen a few people do this too, would've made sense to spray paint the other side, not sure the longevity of the paint on the 'tape' either, might aswell save money, not spray and just write on the underside as suggested.

Do it in white, and something that will make it more textured. Then get them to draw on the space of their height!! Everytime you measure, also get a art project! If I ever have kids this is what I want to do but with a wooden board in their rooms. First measure when they start walking and go from their. Would be such a cool final piece!
