Man the "How did your parents give you permission line" was so true. Too many people have this conformist belief that they have to listen to their parents. I know many people in theirs 30s whos lives are still controlled by their parents... You don't need permission from your parents to do what you want in your life with an adult. Being a good child means that you support and love your parents just like they loved and supported you because that's being grateful. That has nothing to do with having to agree with them or listening to what they want you to do. They think they are giving you advice from their perspective with your best interests in mind, and those opinions can hold value, but that's a situation where you can take their points and then critically think through if they hold merit or not to you.
