In reference to the pop star/monster bar in “I Serve The Base”, I think it’s important to contextualise to your dad by showing him 2 of Future’s earliest and biggest hits were “Turn on the Lights” & “Neva End”. This was way more pop and/or mainstream and commercially viable than the material on DS2 and onwards.

nah future actually spits like crazy on freak hoes. The story is he did his verses in one take, and just started rapping the chorus at the end to close it off, and metro said that would be a great chorus, so they restructured the song to what it is now.

Your pops figured it out when he said he sounded high making the music. I think it was a concept album it had a psychedelic feel to it like those old 70s rock albums. Trap lean psychedelic sort of speak. No surprised it was named DS 2.
