I found it hard to work out why it’s Paramore’s best album. After watching this, it’s because it has a perfect balance of 80’s style modern pop, slow and fast, acoustic, stripped back and encompasses how far they have come as a band, to still exist as a band has been tough for them and Hayley and the gang are all out legends. Thanks for reacting ❤

I’ve always found the track “No Friend” very interesting. It sounds amazing, but at the same time it has sort of an eerie feeling to it. No Friend is kind of an extension of the song Idle Worship, which you can tell both sonically and lyrically. On top of that the lyrics lets you know that the band has been through a lot, while referencing some of their earlier works. Apparently some of the lyrics come from a letter written by Hayley sent to Aaron Weiss, who is doing the spoken word on the track. I would recommend reading the original letter. It's called "No Friend (Aaron’s Letter)" on Genius. As far as i know, the whole letter is included in the track, but it’s really buried in the mix, so you can’t hear a lot of it. There's also an isolated vocals version on yt. It’s a very personal letter and it’s honestly a little heartbreaking. It gives some explanation to the theme of Idle Worship but also includes other themes of the After Laughter album. No friend is a track that i think encapsulates the bands history and After Laughter well in only 3 minutes. You can tell the road to get where they are has not been easy. I love that they decided to include this kind of unconventional track on the album, because it fits in with everything perfectly in my opinion.

LOVED this reaction vid and how you pay attention to the instrumentals. Zac’s drumming and Taylor’s guitar deserve all the praise. It’s gonna be 20 years in July since their debut album came out so it might be cool if you reacted to it!! It’s often overlooked but it’s such a banger for a bunch of teenagers to put out. Then Hayley’s solo albums, both of them. Petals for Armor was produced by Taylor and he co-wrote some of it, and Zac did drums on some songs so even though it’s solo, she kept her bandmates involved in a project that is nothing like Paramore’s sound. Flowers for Vases was her second solo album that gets overlooked because she didn’t really promote it. Semi-acoustic, self-written and self-recorded *every* instrument at home during covid, a true little gem 🖤

As a lifelong Paramore fan (literally been there since the start) I hated how the fanbase didn’t celebrate this album. It was such a good album but some of the fanbase just wanted the old rock emo paramore and couldn’t appreciate this album. I don’t think I could be making a similar sounding album for 10 years in a row without getting burnt out and bored. I’m so glad they grew up and released this album and the next one (This is Why) with a different sound without losing their identity in a sense.

One of the coolest, biggest "genre leaps" if you will, that I've heard from a band. Looking back, you can follow the trajectory over the history of their albums from that emo/rock to this synthy pop sound. They had about a 4 year gap to create this album and I think Taylor really thrived with experimenting with new sounds, intimidating Hayley at times with these funky melodies. However, she rose to the challenge and deliveredddd. And with Zac being back and his perfect intuitive drumming, paired with the meaning of the song Grudges, I just feel like this album was an absolutely perfect culmination of their three lived experiences and ups and downs as a band. AL foreverrrrr!!
