I'll never forget that stream bro, his PUBG streams were by far one of the best things that was happening to youtube that era. Until he did that lol. It was very sad for the ones who know Felix the person, behind Pewdiepie the youtuber, Felix used to be very influenced by hiphop culture during that time, he still does love many rappers, or so I think that was a huge influence in him by that era. When it happened that's when it hit him. He realized it wasnt "gamer slang" or his own idea of a rapper culture "slang", it hit him man, it was hard. He lost contracts, almost lost his channel due to backlash, lost his youtube show, friends, a lot. Around that time his alcoholism started as well, it changed him a lot. I understand and know the rules, but it just doesn't feel the same. Not just terms that are racist or homophobic, but simple fuck doesn't carry the same weight for me as it does in my native language. I never swear in my native language, it just doesn't go past my lips because that's how I was raised and it stays with you, but in English I swear quite often. Same for a lot of crude or sexual terms I'm more likely to blurt out when I don't think about it because I didn't grow up with the same social rules, language-wise. It's of course not an excuse and free pass to behave rudely, and he did well to apologise, just saying that knowing English well doesn't mean you'll ever fully feel the weight of certain words.

Your dad has a good approach to the whole thing, and I really think that with your dads mindset, a whole lot of progress could be made in terms of mutual understanding of the word, between black and white people. It's never good when such a topic is underdiscussed, like people feel like they're walking on egg shells whenever the topic of the N-word pops up. Basically what I'm saying is that if people are willing to put aside their defense when talking about such a personal topic, and just try to understand where the other person stands on the topic, we could make a lot of progress and heal the cuts that were made during those times. Times are changing, and the best way to put it behind you, is to talk it through and acknowledge the mistakes made in the past, and how we can avoid that type of stuff in the future.

Also just remember that Pewdiepie is born and raised in Sweden, a country that doesn't have a strong emotional connection to the N word. We know its a bad word on an intellectual level, but its hard to really understand the meaning of that word if you didnt have the history of slavery, or live in a country with a large black community.
