A very difficult conversation with dad as he learns the extent of his deficits and their impact on his daily life.

I think he's so cute when he says "I was born in 1932" . . . he says that a lot. He doesn't know how old he is . . . he doesn't know what year it is, but he always knows the year he was born and he's so proud when he says it, like a little kid who knows something and likes to tell people. He's just so precious. I love this man.

But if you notice, Dad thought he is only 69 or 70. That's what he thought because he has dementia and in that moment, it was 21 years ago for him! His long, long term memory is pretty good-that's why he is always quick to say when his birthday year is-he thinks someone is pulling his leg when they tell him he's 91.

@@oregonlakesyes. I agree but what Dan does is so therapuetic for Grandpa Ed. He keeps him going thinking, challenging him. If he lived alone or had no contact with the outside world...he would of been far gone by now. I don't know if Dan has read on how to take care a dementia patient but I believe he's doing a great job doing his best from what I see here in these videos.

Remember, alzheimer patients is better not to argue even if they say the sky is yellow or red . The good cell in the brain that still left can be damage quickly if they frustrated or angry , and the happy they are , the longer will survive with the disease . Some poeples survive 15 years or more , and some survive 3 years or less.. Make your life easy by agree with everything in form of conversation and stop thinking that he /she will remember anything you told them or you trying to convince them to do or +++. It beyond their ability with the disease and don't take it personal. The memory chip in the brain is not accepting any data period , and only old data in the brain that can be stored dated back to childhood is been brought back and used in very strange way. This videos will help millions of others about daily routines of alzheimer patients and all this questions are the normal , the only difference that can come up with screaming and anger , but Ed at least in camera , he look he is calm in his questoning.

@raywalters243 may I please speak to you? My father passed away in 2008. He wasn’t the most patient father and was very physical with us. I truly believe my mom has a mental illness where she hates me. I’m the middle of three and she speaks to the other two, but has very little to do with me. When I call her, it’s like talking to the wall.. she doesn’t say a word. I say goodbye just so she knows that I am not hanging up on her. If I push the topic too far and ask why she doesn’t say anything, such vile and terrible comments are made towards me that no daughter should ever hear from a mom. I’m in so much therapy over this because it has destroyed my life. I know that one day she will no longer be with me, but I have no idea how I will react when that happens. 😢
