I was kidnapped when i was 5. Long story short i ended up escaping and i can remember seeing my parents and my family and how relieved they were. It's not funny but my dad and 4 uncles were able to get to the guy before the cops and they crippled him, he was a giant man so don't feel bad that he never walked again, the courts didn't do their jobs because the guys family was longtime friends with the judges family and he only got 3 months, but he never walked again and never touched another kid. My dad & uncles are still my heroes.

@@monejohn9973 It was 2001. It was a different time. It was safe, dare I say ten times more safe than current day USA for kids to play outside. The kids are probably raised around other adults and neighbour and they got used to adults. How about instead of blaming the parents, you blame the predator? I was repeatedly se_ually assaulted as a child. I lived through it by saying over and over “he can do what he wants to my body, but he can’t have my mind.” I was afraid of men for a good part of my childhood into my young adulthood, but I realized the only thing I could do about the past was to change how I perceived it. I grew away from those moments, knowing they were just that, but also knowing I had many many more amazing moments than bad. I wouldn’t let anyone steal my joy.

That’s really shitty to say. As if the ones who have trouble afterwards are bad and should get it together and “raise above it”. Shasta Groene was kidnapped and raped by Joseph Duncan. He also killed her 2 brothers, mother and stepfather. She was found alive in an IHOP after convincing him not to kill her. She was then sent to live with her biological father and stepmom who abused her. She has had a VERY hard life since and as an adult. She’s been arrested, been addicted to drugs and alcohol, had her children taken… and guess what? She is STILL just as admirable as this girl. She is STILL just as brave and a survivor. It’s disgusting for you to say “I like the ones who raise above being kidnapped and raped the best!” Well, fck you. You can’t imagine what something like this can do to someone. Shame on you. There’s much better ways to word your comment but people like you just love putting your damn foot in your mouth, be better.

I will never get the concept of letting your 6- to 13-year-old kid walk to school and back alone What type of parenting is that? Where's your instinct as a parent?
@jaxh34498 ай бұрын
I understand exactly what you mean. Things were different 25 years ago, though. We didn't have the internet to show all of the evils of the world. It was very easy for most ppl to believe that human beings were predominantly kind and good. Kids walked around alone all the time. Without a phone or any way to be tracked. It is wild to think about how vulnerable we all were, but too naive to realize what could happen to us.
@hnichole27 күн бұрын
Get off your high horse, please. This was 2001, it was a cultural norm and crime was more common back then with less technology to catch perpetrators than there are today. The only reason we know not to let kids walk home alone in this day and age is because of crimes like Leah's that made headlines (just like other serial killers taught people not to hitchhike, or how the murders of Adam Walsh and James Bulger have parents keeping close eyes on their kids in stores). We only know what we know because of the past, which obviously the people living in that time were not privy to.
