Great visual instruction and step by step. Great job!! Been doing electrical for over 10 years and people don’t realize how easy most DIY is around the home. I tell everyone that I do work for that if you’re going to do your own work I HIGHLY recommend a Non-Contact Voltage Tester so you can always double and triple check that there is no electricity in your wires after you shut the breaker off. One issue is you also called your neutral wires your ground wires.
@calebroskamp9937 Жыл бұрын
Appreciate the videos. One note, remove black, white, green. Replace green, white, black. The black carries current. Without it, unless your circuitry involves a multi wire branch circuit, there is no current. The neutral completes the current. You don’t want to get caught in the current, so you want to close that option by connecting the whites first before connecting the current with the blacks.

And why wouldn't it be de-energized if you opened the breaker or pulled the fuse? If you want people to follow this advice you have to give a "why." Otherwise it just sounds like a ritual. There are "rituals" in just about every task that people do bc nobody stops to ask why they're doing it, just somebody told them to.

when splicing stranded wire (the light fixture wires) with solid copper wires (the wires in the socket) it is best to strip more insulation from the fixture wires so you can get a good tight connection with the solid wires. I like to use connectors from WAGO or similar

Thanks Dad, I burned my house down because I didn’t pre-twist the wires before putting them inside the wire nuts and didn’t know I had to tug on them to verify they were tight. I could have possibly saved the mistake if I had known I that taping each pair together with the wire nut would have kept them together. I wasn’t in my right mind though because I think that the shock I received by turning off the wrong circuit breaker and not verifying voltage before I took the wires apart with my bare hands. Welcome to the internet Pops!
@jsb7546 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure this comment is sarcasm but I'll say this anyway. If you read the manufacturers instructions for wire nuts almost all of them say just to twist with the wire nut not to pretwist I mean I'll still pretwist but the manufacturers state that you don't have to for it to be a proper connection. Tug test is recommended too but have you also made sure you stripped enough of the conductor but not too much as to be outside of the wire nut. On the topic of testing after deenergizing its only 120 which can kill you but is unlikely unless you have a bad heart and that's assuming you get shocked in a way that current hits your heart. I only check because I hate being shocked not because I feel life or death situation on 120 volt 240 volt is getting up there and anything past that like 277 or 480 volt I live dead live test boi because I ain't tryna meet God ok. Thanks for listening to my Ted talk I am the lowley electrican browsing KZbin at 2 in the morning.

You can get zapped. Despite turning everything to off electricity is weird, sometimes there's a connection that shouldn't be there. Even if everything is off treat it like it's on. Wear rubber soled shoes, use insulated tools. Seriously, you do not want to get zapped.
