The discussion of pre war civilian mortality is fascinating. I had two great uncles on my maternal side, Theodore and Arthur. They were born in 1897 and 1898 so right in the WW1 generation however both died before the turn of the century.

As an WFA member I watch a lot of our videos and this is the 1st time I've heard that the UK draft age went up from 41 to 51! 51 y/o men going over the top-that's crazy. Even 41 y/o's going in.

My Great-Uncle died in a German POW camp. He fell from his guard tower...

I can tell you what my six granduncles did in the Great War. They sailed from New Zealand on troops ships at various times and, after more training in Egypt, sailed on troop ships from England to Fance and Belgium and at different times, were blown to bits and posted as missing. And so, that was that.

My paternal grandfather went to France in 1918, I think. He returned in 1919. He died when I was barely 5, and I don't know what he did.
