I'm 1948 vintage, and I remember my Mum making these in the 1950s, 60s & 70s. Pretty much the same way your Dad made them except that instead of flouring them, she used to coat them in breadcrumbs before frying them. They were absolutely wonderful! 😋 So many of your recipes bring back such great memories, memories of a time long past, never to return. 🥲 Thank you so much, AG! 🙏🏻

@@aussiegirlcancook I tell you what else my Mum used to do: she used to save all the drippings from the Sunday roasts (usually Beef or Leg of Lamb), and keep it in one of those giant jam tins you used to be able to buy in those days, (they used to hold about 2 or 3lbs of jam), and, in another one of those tins, she used to save all the water from boiling any veggies. She used the dripping for all kinds of pan-frying, (rissoles, even fried scones), roasting (e.g., potatoes), and the veggie water was used for making all our gravies.

Do you have any recipes that we can make to cook over a camp fire?
@aussiegirlcancook3 жыл бұрын
sure do got heaps of dampers on there can all be done in camp oven. also if you look throu the pictures and see all the ones that are in a cast iron pot. they can all be made over the coals. braised steak and onions. sausage casserole. vegetable and barley soup. beef stroganoff. hungarian style goulash. osso bucco. lambs fry and bacon. lamb shanks. apricot chicken. and many more. i have personally made all of theses in the camp oven. my big plan is next winter to do camp oven cooking and make all this and more. hope that helps for now. most of them i explain how to do in camp oven. have an awesome day Mon 😁

If you feel like a deviation from this tried and true recipe add a table spoon of vegemite and two tablespoons of peanut butter into that mixture, sounds strange but its a good taste.
