Why are twins usually born early?

My twins arrived earlier than planned at 34+ weeks due to intrauterine restricted growth (IUG) but thrived better outside the womb.

That's worrying. 2 of my singletons came at 41+ weeks. One came at 37 weeks and he was in the NICU for 3 weeks. His dates were correct. His dr's didn't have an explanation other than some babies need more time to cook. He wouldn't take breast of bottle and he struggled to maintain his body temperature. There were preemies arriving after him and leaving before him. I was born at 43 weeks in the 80's. Dates were correct because my Dad was military and there was only one weekend he was home on leave. My older sister was 43 weeks. My younger sister was 42 weeks. If our twins arrive at 36 weeks, this could get ugly.

Our twin girls were born at 36 weeks and did fine. With medical care these days, your twins will get great care if NICU time is needed.
