I remember meeting daev in the VIP section of Chicago's (a pub grill in Lusaka Zambia), I had bumped into a lot of celebrities there and have never felt the urge to talk to them or even ask for a photo. But daev was different, that was the first time seeing him in person and I could tell he was an introvert and a little bit uncomfortable being there. This loud place with all these people just didn't seem like his cup of tea. so I asked a waitress to bring me an extra glass, i poured him some Hennessy and walked up to him handing him the glass, his face lit up immediately but he denied the drink, but his persona and politeness were so regal that I took no offense by his refusal, I just joked about it and we started talking about music immediately. I explained to him how his song "kamba kah love" just felt too deep to not be about something he actually experienced, his mood immediately shifted and you could see him get uncomfortable about that topic. he really used to wear his heart on his sleeves. I immediately changed the subject and started talking about how earlier that day I was on KZbin looking at the comments on this video. I pulled out my phone and started showing him the comments from people in different countries vibing to his music. he was so shocked that he got so much love from people in faraway places. which was very puzzling to me to be aware that he never went through the comments of his own song. so I opened boomplay next and showed more love he was receiving from fans here in Zambia and abroad. in as much as it was shocking to him, he didn't seem too amused, in retrospect I think its because he had a feeling he would not be here any longer to enjoy his success. everything about him was genuine but that smile he shared with me after I showed him impressive stats was a bit fugazi. about 30 mins had passed since we started talking and some of his female fans came and disturbed us. I gave him a handshake and he proceeded to his perform his celebrity roles like the star he was. little did i know that was the first and last I was getting the opportunity to speak to him, about a few weeks later I was back in my room in university when my friend came to inform me about his untimely demise. and I came to find out that the Song "kamba kah love" had a deeper meaning to it as around that same time videos surfaced about how toxic his relationship was. I did not know him personally but to me, he was nice and polite and I just hope he is in a better place.
