Another great video! We have a store in the UK called Argos, where all the " cheap brands" are exclusively sold eg daewoo , Alba and Bush....

I remember these back in the mid 2000's, they were everywhere! I had a seperate VHS and DVD at the time so I never had the need for one.

I've got a very similar one. The DVD-drive isn't quite working anymore although I didn't use it alot. Unable to use rewritables :/. It is the model DF-8150

4:46 That refers to Video CDs (or VCDs). They have worse quality than VHS tapes, the pixels are more visible on VCDs. There are also Super VCDs, which the quality is between VHS and DVD (if I'm not mistaken). They would run roughly a half an hour per disc due to higher resolution, which requires more space. That Daewoo doesn't say if it could read the Super VCDs. You could try them if you have them. They could even be made from standard CD-Rs.

Years ago, Popular Electronics reviewed some new products, one of which was a DVD re-winder! Of course it was the April Issue.

That VCR mechanism sounds exactly my really chap daewoo 2 heads VCR. I have a 6 heads daewoo combo unit but it sounds different.
@electronicwaves2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. The mechanism looks to be the same with the Thomson VCR you used to test the Orion LCD you found at the dump. The same one you modified in another video later,. I have a Thomson and Daewoo VCR, they use the same mechanism (different revisions). I think it's maybe safe to assume Daewoo is the OEM of the mechanism.

Yes, I agree. Daewoo was one of the last manufacturers of VHS mechanisms.

VCD's use MPEG1 codec. You might find them on eBay. You can find more info by looking up "Video CD" on the Wikipedia.

I wonder what interesting errors pop up if the wrong DVD RW unit, non writeable DVD drive or a hard disk is installed on that IDE ribbon? :)

do you know what would be the problom if the vcr eats the tape. basicly im saying that the actual film gets tangled up in the vcr and cant eject?

Hi Dr Cassette, i have similar unit which i got in 2005. The unit works but the VHS playback is in black and white. The DVD playback is always in colour. What can i do to get the video to play in colour again.

I've only heard about VCDs, but have never seen one. Can you buy movies on VCDs, or it's just a format for home videos? Is it using the MPEG2 codec?

6:34, nicht nur warten, sondern auch die Lebensdauer ist durch die blöden Computer überall sehr kurz... Bitte, wer braucht ein Bildschirm im Backofen, oder der Waschmaschine? Hallo?!

Heh! I'm always cautious about articles in April issues of most magazines! :-)

It's most likely not even going to power up with such a mis-configuration. It'll probably just freeze showing that WAIT message in the display.

Ich glaube Daewoo VCRs sind die selben wie SEG, das Innere erinnert mich an einen SEG, Daewoo kommt ja auch aus Korea.

I think the VCR part is made by Daewoo. At least it is 3x better than those crappy Funai combos.

I attempted to downgrade an 75 minute DVD movie to VCD, and I tell you, I really regretted wasting a good CD-R, and my time!!! It was just an experiment, and I must say, the results were successful, yet horrible. I haven't tried the SVCD, but that VCD thing, the quality is TERRIBLE!
