WhenI do this I still have a gap between each petal. What am I doing wrong?

I'm sorry you're having problems with the technique. I found that I had to practice a lot and even now sometimes I find that I don't have enough room for all the pieces rather than having gaps. You might try gluing them all down onto a smaller circle of paper and see if that helps. The end result is always so pretty that its worth the effort it takes. Good luck!
