Dahlia Tour Decorative And Waterlily Varieties 2022

This dahlia tour includes all the Decorative and Waterlily dahlias in bloom in my garden right now.
I’ll show you the differences between each, comparing colour, height, and flower size, in the hope it’ll help you select the dahlia varieties that you’d like in your gardens.
We’ve had a slow start this year due to the unprecedented heat wave and lack of rainfall, not to mention that the deer ate every single one of my young plants back in June, and consequently, they’ve had to make a supreme effort to grow back. Thank goodness nature knows how to combat pesky pests! 🤣

Quite possibly my favourite varieties, apart from some balls and anemones- in particular Blue Bayou. My cafe au lait is white in June/July but adopts its' gorgeous cream tones later in the season. :-) Maya looks like a beautiful wedding bloom. Thank you for another great video :-) x #

Annette, I wanted to send you a photo of my American Dawn dahlia but KZbin won't let me. . The photo makes it look dark orange with purple in it's center. But, I have a lot of photos from three different plants that the colors vary. I love this dahlia because it produces blooms early in the season to frost, prolifically! Dahlias are a God Send! So strong and healthy with no diseases! You have a beautiful assortment! Thank You for sharing these!

Thanks Eileen. I really believe I have a dodgy American Dawn and I am starting to wish I hadn't included it !!! The only issues I've found with my dahlias is that for the very first time ever, we have some aphids on them this year - it's never been a problem before so I don't know what has caused it - maybe the weather?

Hi Annette, your doubts are correct, that is definitely not American Dawn - I have it and I also got mine from Farmer Gracy. I also ordered Great Silence, which is similar to American Dawn, but I think I've now got two American Dawn's. 🙄

Thanks Tracy. I waited so long to get my hands on American Dawn and then when the tubers arrived from @FarmerGracy they were in pieces, with no discernible neck, so I wrote to them and they sent me replacements, only 1 of which was worth planting and this is the result....I'm so disappointed. Maybe we should do a swap! 🤣 I will definitely try to get hold of some again next year - maybe from @rosecottageplants this time as they seem to be so much better.

@@cottoverdi got to admit, I'm very disappointed with Farmer Gracy and since i ordered, ive read others have had problems too. I also ordered Linda's Baby, but that wasn't right either, Needless to say, won't be ordering again. Do you leave yours in the ground? I usually dig them up and store, but I've decided to leave them in my raised bed. I'm going to mulch and cover them with a tarp to stop them getting wet.

@@tracyshock3940 I have always dug mine up in the past - we have heavy clay soil so that's not good for the tubers and they could rot if they get too wet. I was going to leave a few in this new bed as as experiment but I want to use it for my ranunculus and anemones so I will dig again this year.

Hi Annette, I have been trying to source a tuber of dahlia “Night Silence” since seeing it in your video. I have only found one mail order nursery in the U.K. who have it listed, but unfortunately, it is out of stock. Can I ask where you bought your one? Thanks

Hi Aileen, Night Silence is stunning - I'm not surprised that you want that one! I ordered mine from Rose Cottage Plants but I, too, have been unable to source more this year and I've lost so many in storage because I'd been super cold, after a very wet autumn and I have a horrible feeling that I lost my Night Silence too....☹️

@@cottoverdi Thanks Annette. Rose Cottage Plants was the only mail order nursery I could find who listed it, but, as you said, it was out of stock. I asked them to email me if/when it comes back into stock, but it looks unlikely that I will be successful obtaining a tuber this year.☹️ It seems to be more popular variety in the USA. I like you, am afraid that I may have lost many of tubers this year. The last time I checked them, I had to discard quite a few, including some of my favourites!☹️ We have heavy snow here in Aberdeenshire today, and nighttime temperatures ranging from -9° and -5° over the next 5 nights and continuing below freezing for a further 7 nights!! Let’s hope the forecast is wrong!😂 Roll on Spring!🌺
