Is it possible to go directly from the tray to planting in the ground?

You could try and some might well take if the conditions are excellent in the bed, although a direct sowing technique would seem to make more sense.

Very nice information, I have a question, do you plan to take cuttings from these plants or use them as pot tubers next year or you will plant them out in the garden ?

Hi Shashank, thanks for your question. These are for planting out in mid May, by which time they will be quite advance. Cuttings take a while longer to mature and should be started in January or February (here in UK) to give them time to be large enough to plant out. Here is a video on timing : kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKnOZHR9h8-onq8 So far as pot tubers go - any tuber can be grown in a small pot through the season, with the intention of using the pot-bound restricted tuber mass as a pot tuber for cuttings next year. We start our at 20C on the mats, which is about 18C soil temperature. Anything between 16-20C is ideal.
