This piece is from a different planet. The composer took the bassoon to a new dimension and also the bassoonist is delivering the music in a fantastic way. Great composer, great bassoonist!

Intriguing. Delighted that I stumbled upon this. I also find the composers notes interesting. I recently completed a flute solo-"Aubade Raga", and inserted similar comments to help the performer have some image to relate the sound to. I was very hesitant as I didn't want to come off too esoteric but never the less I left them in the score. Your music dear sir is other-worldly. Fantastic!

It's all well explained in this book: www.amazon.com/Techniques-Bassoon-Playing-English-German/dp/3761818602 -written by Pascal Gallois, one of the dedicatees of this piece. It also includes a CD with sound demonstration.

I noticed in the score that at measure 145-151 (timestamp 6:09 ) (and elsewhere) there are single notes meant to be held over from the multiphonics and that doesn't come through; the pitch shifts when Nakagawa goes from the multiphonic to the single note. I imagine that must be really difficult. Evidently this isnt' essential to the sound cause it sounds great anyways (though that and clear pianissimo multiphonics would be awesome).
