Daichi, the Foundation of Karasuno | Haikyuu!!

A video essay and character analysis all about my favorite character in Haikyuu!!, Daichi, who is the Foundation (and Dad) of Karasuno. I noticed there were no essays talking about Daichi, which makes sense - he does all of the little things that I feel are often overlooked.
Rewatching Haikyuu episodes is always a thrill - but trying to find Daichi moments was really hard for this video because he is almost never given the same spotlight as some of the other characters' (like Nishinoya, Tsukishima, Hinata, Kageyama, Oikawa, etc.).

"many teams have captains, but only karasuno has daichi." is the line that makes me tear up. incredible video- daichi is my favorite character for all the reasons you said and more- when kageyama, hinata, or even suga spirals, there's daichi with rope for others to climb out of the hole. daichi is criminally underrated and terushima recognizing daichi's ability is a great moment! daichi/earth metaphors always make me so emotional- he really is so grounding and present for all of them. thanks for this video!

Yess, I’ve always loved Daichi! Another thing I noticed about him is his ability to give each player what they need to be their best, despite it being different for each of them. Like how he has a sort of tough love approach for Asahi in order to get him out of his poor self esteem spiral he sometimes gets into, or that scene where he gets Hinata excited about other schools studying his moves while at the same time getting Tanaka jealous, so they’ll both play their best. He’s criminally underrated!!

My underrated favourite character and role model in volleyball. To be all-round player, yet being strong foundation behind team's structure. Mastering important ability in volleyball (receiving) yet silently hiding behind shadow of the team.

Chapter 283 Where daichi did a back row attack and kita failed to dig it causing the ball to hit inarizaki's banner,is simply the biggest and best flex in all of haikyuu,as if daichi saying to inarizaki's captain,kita that karasuno is better

its true when you said theres no character in haikyuu that you will hate. all of them seems very likeable. but, i also end up going back to daichi despite me liking a bunch of characters in haikyuu. daichi just have a special place in my heart where he has this strong mentality that manage to keep the team going. i just love him huhu.

Daichi is my favorite character in Haikyuu. The moment I spotted him in episode 2 I was like "Ahhh...he's going to be my favorite." And he still is. He's safe. Stable. Comforting. Wise. Strong. Definitely someone I admire and aspire to be as a person.

yeah!!! i always loved daichi bc he taught me to keep going (even if only to spite everyone) and I remembered his words when me and my badminton doubles partner were up against a tough team. she was freaking out about how good they were and how we were going to lose, and I basically paraphrased his quote but in a more awkward way and we still lost, but we played a very tight game and played quite well haha. so props to daichi for being that grounding support to anchor his team hehe

I couldn't agree with you more he is totally like an unwavered Foundation of the team and what I love about him the most is that he is extremely calm and observant during matches and he knows his teammates like the back of his hand he knows how to encourage them and honestly the teammates relay on him to support them and help them balance .

Bro Daichi maybe best at receiving but he is also great at spiking, most of the spike he make always make a poin, he is strong in receiving that the opponent team doesn't notice he can spike as well, he is like the second libero in karasuno but can spike and also like the opposite of hinata, so great at defend that the opponet blind that he can spike,of course he is the captain, when you see him for the first time in the episode he already know what the weaknesses of his team like when he met kageyama he know that he is stubborn and impatient, man he is the best captain in haikyuu to me

Exactly. He's such a well rounded player. Especially in the first couple seasons where he was pretty much a one-man defense when Nishinoya couldn't be on the court. He's an amazing receiver and spiker.

I think the thing that draws me to haikyuu isnt just the animation, storyline etc....Its the characters. And i dont mean that their super cool or whatever. Its those moments where they keep reminding us that "Hey, while this show is about volleyball and how the guys grow, they are STILL high-schoolers!!" So moments where like akashi,kurro and bokuto are like " oh yea? oh yea yea? oh yea yea yea" Just reminds me of how highschoolers are! While we do have a bit of maturity and seriousness at that age, no way in heck will we not be goofing off! daichi and suga daydreaming that their coach is really acting like one is just so normal to high-schoolers, and being one myself, it reminded me of how we are! So while i may have a friend who's damn serious, no maturity is stopping me from chopping his side yelling "NEGATIVITYYYYY BEGONE!!"

I haven't seen the dub, no. I recently became aware though that I've been pronouncing it wrong - will have that fixed in later videos
