Good morning you awesome KZbin camera geeks! Today's episode focuses on one of the lesser known cameras used by Daido Moriyama, a world renowned Japanese street photographer.
Daido is well known for his use of the Ricoh GR-1 film camera in his film days but he's also used a lot of digital cameras for his iconic street work.
Today we focus on one of those "other" cameras, namely the Nikon Coolpix S9100 from 2011.
My first impressions of the Coolpix S9100 many years ago was that it was a cheap, generic point and shoot and so I was surprised when I first heard that Daido, a master photographer, was using it.
But the more I learned about the camera, the more I used it, the more I came to appreciate it and the more I learned about Daido's methodology with regards to camera and street shooting.
I share all of this with you guys today on this video. Hope you enjoy this video and if you did please don't forget to drop a COMMENT to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to the channel!
I appreciate your support thanks for watching! #camera #cameras #digicam #oldcamera #photography #film

He used a number of film and digital cameras. I used to have a Rolleiflex which had formerly been owned by him, it was pretty beat to hell, and I had to replace the shutter before I could use it. He was (and still is) a figure in Shinjuku.

I've not heard of it using a Rolleiflex so that's very interesting to hear. I wouldn't be surprised if there were tons more cameras he used. Thanks for sharing your insights and love your channel by the way! It's a great resource for the camera community and I applaud the work you're doing. Keep up the great work!

OK, now I get it. It's a Daido camera. And you knew what I was going to do as soon as I heard "Daido" -- and you stopped me. You're right, of course...you can't follow the Daido way -- maybe "Daidodo" in Japanese -- by buying his cameras. Thanks man. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the black-and-white JPEGs. They looked very good to me, plenty of DR even at a high contrast setting. And with the good AF and 24mm it might be one of the best cameras for Daido. Very glad to hear you're just scratching the surface! All the best in 2024.

Thanks Number Six for sharing your thoughts. As for the black and white jpegs they're ok. The High Contrast Monochrome is cool and dramatic, maybe too deep and dark for my taste but maybe that's how Daido liked it. The jpegs are much softer than what comes out of the Ricoh cameras. That's my observations. Appreciate your comments as always!

I am a big fan of compact cameras with a big zoom range; Lumix LF1, Lumix TZ90, TZ 100, and one of my favorite zooms are Tamron 28-300 for canon. They may not be as sharp as primes but we will get some more interesting photos in many cases. BTW; your videos feels genuine and interesting - so do not quit.

the xa line is still my favorite films compacts. i think i'm an oddball in that i prefer the xa3 the most out of all of them. i don't really shoot film anymore, but i'm never getting rid of that! always love seeing it get mentioned. even if there isn't a digital xa, i still think of it when i use (most recently) my sony dsc-t5 with an internal focusing mechanism that the original XA pioneered.

I have 5 digital cameras. I'm not buying any others until all of them break. I usually use my phone camera as well. A long time ago I tried other cameras, but got used to the point, and shoot ones. I didn't have to do anything special. Just take the picture, and that's all. I never cared about brands either.

what do you think about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX100 VII?
@cameralegend1033
@cameralegend1033 2 күн бұрын
Sorry I missed this comment! I've never used the RX100 VII so I can't really say but I still have the original RX100 and I think it's fantastic. As I understand it, all the RX100 series cameras use the same or a variation of the same 20mp 1 inch sensor and so I didn't see much reason to upgrade. However if you want wider and longer the RX100 VI has it with the 24-200mm vs the 28-100mm on the original. I'm sure they tweaked the newer camera for better overall image quality and video as well. If you need those features then it's worth the upgrade. If you haven't gotten the VII already and you just want to get great photos and you don't care about video or any other differences, you could save a bunch with the original RX100. Sorry again for the late reply, good luck with the camera if you get it.
