Even though I've been playing ukulele for 4 months, I hadn't learned something so simple and useful as "Happy Birthday" and the timing for this couldn't be better, because my husband's grandmother is turning 100 years old next week and I promised to learn to play it for her. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials!

This was helpful in learning what key is easiest for me to sing in. I'd love to see a full video that explains how to find the key best for singing in.

Hi Cynthia. Im new to the uke and to your Patreon. I so appreciate your teaching style. so far it's been going great. I use this happy birthday to warm up and I could see my progression from nothing to something. Doing this for the last 30 days since I started and I haven't looked back. You are a super talented person and a great teacher to us. Your joy in teaching shows and rubs off to us. Keep it up.

Thank you! This is such a great warm-up exercise for getting my fingers use to different chord progressions. I’m also a children’s librarian who uses ukulele during storytime. I’ve found learning songs with very familiar melodies gives me the courage to play in front of families.

I remember a while back trying to find a simple bit effective happy birthday for the ukulele and not being successful. By chance today I was scrolling your videos looking for something to play and I saw this! Really like the key of C version so will be playing this next time one of my grade 4 students has a birthday!!

I think you always do a great job but I think it’s worth mentioning that “Happy Birthday” is in 3/4 so, if you’re playing with others island strum won’t work well. It’s certainly a nice variation if you’re singing it to someone by yourself or if you’re a really strong singer and can convince a crowd to go against their norm.
@cynthialinmusic2 жыл бұрын
you’re totally right, Alyna! thank you for pointing this out!

What does “is in 3/4” mean? I’m truly a beginner.
@alynawatersmusic2 жыл бұрын
@@jericacates6738 it means there are three quarter notes per measure but, even more simply, it means there are three beats per measure. So, if you’re clapping along while you’re singing it you’d clap 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻, 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻, 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. Each clap could be replaced by a down strum (not with this video because she used 4/4, which she made work, but it’s not traditional). I’m not good at explaining things first thing in the morning, lol. I hope that made a little sense. Have fun with your musical journey.
@jericacates67382 жыл бұрын
@@alynawatersmusic Thank you for the explanation Alyna. I think I understand a little better. It’s all about the timing. I’m sure I will learn more about notes and measures as I progress.
