Maybe you want to be frank and honest about your review, but it seems to me that it comes off as pretty negative in general and most people who see this are probably Matrix fans. BTW, I guess you're not aware of it, but maybe try not saying "uh" and "ahh" every third word,,, it's kind of annoying.

Matrix gang checking in 😎 Shoulda showed how much cargo space they have with seats down and the design and usefulness built in.

Ive gotta disagree with a couple things and think you need a tune up. I have a 2005 Matrix XR with 260,548 miles. Im getting about 25-28 city mpg on my hour drive to work and hour drive home. Its automatic but actually has some good pickup to it. I keep up with all the newer cars and the "passing gear" on the highway kicks hard and fast. Try swapping your plugs and coils with OEM plugs ;) Im a long term mechanic and I have really enjoyed my matrix over the last couple years. I even did mobile mechanics out of it with about 300lbs of tools in the back and mass daily driving with all that. Its a great car with very high mileage possibilities with only basic maintance.

Yeah thats awesome, I do agree toyota makes great cars! You're probably right about the tune-up but I've since moved on. Thanks for your comment. - DD

What’s your secret to getting that good of gas mileage? I am thinking about buying an awd matrix. I need a cheap, tough, dependable car with lots of room and awd. I have lots of work trucks and vans and such for my heavy equipment business. I need 1 econo car with awd. I live in Georgia Appalachian mountains. What terrain are you in? Can a person pull a fuse to disable the rear driveshaft or how does it engage? Just trying to have a sneaky way of getting better mpg……

Soooo with the matrix/vibe it's definitely an econobox. The base and xr has the 1zzfe that's just made for fuel economy but you can get some gains out of it for a bit of money, ecu is horrible for tuning so piggyback is required. But better as a daily. The XRS or GT for vibe has the 2zzge that's tuned up and has a few more goodies added in for more power, added with toyotas version of vtech and a redline of over 8k makes it the better option for spirited driving. However the awd system that toyota uses is weak so it can barely handle the power the 1zz is already putting in and toyota never designed a manual varient of their transmission that will line up with the awd. So really if you want the awd you aren't getting power or a stick, but if you go base you're left with a 6k redline and fwd. And also XRS models and GTs are stupid hard to come across but if you do find one get the manual. Owned an 06 base vibe and now own an awd 06 matrix.

Yes I've recently had a problem with the MAP sensor which likely affecting performance. It is also fairly high mileage. Thanks the the input

Would you get a fwd for the better fuel economy? or is the awd really necessary because I live in Colorado and get a lot of snow too. And is it easy to pass people on the highway? Also cool vid glad I could be an early subscriber
@dailydrivers3461
@dailydrivers3461 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks I really appreciate the support. If you live in an area of Colorado that gets quite a bit of snow, I would recommend finding one with the AWD system. The small fuel economy penalty is worth it in my mind. As far as highway passing goes, it is comparable to a civic/Corolla from the era, just acceptable. Thanks, Daily Drivers

How's the suspension and comfort of driving? I have a 2000 corolla and the seats are comfortable compare to 2003 corolla.

The seat are supportive and comfortable, however the ride feels slightly unrefined. It can be jittery over bumps and has quite a bit of body roll. Its also loud on the interior. Thanks for the comment!

I have an '04 Matrix base model with power locks, AC, and the 5MT. I think that the 1ZZ with the 5MT is plenty quick for daily driving as it is a lot more direct than the 4-speed auto. I also get about 6.8-7.5L/100km average fuel economy. I love the car and I plan on keeping it as long as I can. It's a great cheap daily driver if your expectations aren't too high for an early 2000's econobox. If you want fast, luxurious, or prestigious, a Matrix definitely isn't the car for you. If you want something cheap, reliable, fuel efficient, with a TON of cargo space, it's a great car. Definitely more of a city car than a highway cruiser. :) Edit: the visors slide on the Pontiac Vibe (so if you find a vibe at a junkyard and you have a matrix, snag the visors out of the vibe)

I I’m also worried about this 4-speed auto. But I imagine how hard it you be to find the 5-speed auto, i searched online and I think it’s only available from 2009-2014 versions, but hope I’m wrong

I don't understand why people by these. They are the same engine as Corolla but the ride is rough and gas mileage isn't so great. Corolla is a better car. Unless you absolutely need space in back, I see no reason to buy it.
