@@w41duvernay LS swaps are so overrated no reason to it just complicates things! Beauty of these cars is they are very simple. Less to go wrong. WIring harness, nothing to them. All available aftermarket now Affordable for insurance parts, can add an OD trans if you fwy drive a lot. No reason to go efi. Been daily driving musclecars since my 1st car, mid 80s. I always set aside 1000 after buying them. Go through it bumper to bumper. New wheel cylinders if it had drum brakes, all new hoses inc brake hoses very important! New fluids tune up parts New mech fuel and water pump belts wether it needed it or not. If it had AC get it working. New tires, all th elittle stuff that can leave you stranded. 160 high flow milodon stat and plastic flex fan. Never ever had one of them break down and leave me stranded and I wasnt easy on them. Evne after a 100k 12 yr frame off I plan to do the same now that Im retired in my 50s. Gonna love every second, too! Big cubes, or a long stroke is where its at on the street. Torque throws you back in the seat not hp. New paint? So what drive it anyways. SOlid lifters same thing you dont have to "adjust them all the time" thats a wives tale!

Sweet Olds. Every trip to the grocery store is an adventure in a jalopy. Always super stoked to see something like your bomb on the street. Hey, the car that I have in my profile picture is a daily driven classic that me and a mechanic named Joe saved from the car crusher. All the parts are original and refurbished, and it works amazing. Its a 1988 oldsmobile delta 88 royale sedan. It had 179k on the odometer when I bought it for $450, and put in another $145 for a water pump. Some of us younger guys are wanting to save the classic cars that aren't priced above our means of living. Some of the newer cars aren't very appealing.

I also think it depends on your lifestyle, your job. If you live 10-15 min from your work or some grocery stores etc...it's not too bad. Or a decent job to help pay for parts here and there. Also helps to know some local mechanics as well to help you out on projects

Love to see it. I just sold my 1972 Cutlass Supreme almost exactly a year ago. It was in similar shape to your 69. Not perfect, just an all American backstreet brawler. Just yesterday, I picked up a 1988 Caprice 9C1. Time to start changing the fluids and getting it into daily driver condition. If you handle the basics, especially ignition, old cars are very easy to daily drive.

So jealous of that cutlass. I’m 16 and currently own a ford cortina and although it’s an awesome car I got for a great deal (aswell as the car is in stunning condition) I can’t wait for the day I can afford to buy a hunk of junk rust bucket of an American muscle car with a v8 in it. Cheapest cutlass where I live right now is $20,000 and it’s got a rust hole through the drivers side floor.

I love this video so much! I'm have a couple of classics which I wish I could work on myself. I find if you dont have the skill spend more to get a car that is in good shape until you learn how to fix more. You should have a main reliable car too. This way you arent pressed is your classic goes down. Once you get more skills you can buy cars cheaper that need more work you can handle. Always good to have a garage you can work out of too. Or bite the bullet and spend for a car already restored

This is why I always like "basic" vintage cars....65 Novas, old falcons old dodge darts etc. Keep all my tools in the trunk and the most likely spare parts to fail.....hoses, belts, cap, points, radiator sealer, etc. Once had a heater core blow 50 miles from home. All I did was bypass the core with a hose. When I was young all I drove was vintage cars. After owning a 1962 Chrysler,, that cured me from buying luxury cars. If they break down on the road......can't fix them on the spot.

Great Video and a new fan! I have a 69 Cutlass too that was beaten to hell from the original owner and I do the same gameplan you do; fix all the neglected maintenance, get a Pertronix kit, new plug wires, coil, re-core the radiator, new brakes, tranny tune-up, new Red Top Optima and it comes alive again! Add Old School Mags on Cooper GTs and add some cool stickers - I'm good for the first year! I don't even bother with paint in the beginning but I start banging out 50 years of dents, looking for missing NOS parts on eBay and have fun driving it all day long in Los Angeles Traffic without a worry. Better than a trailer queen and the girls love it more than last year's Camaro, or BMW HA! Here's a great trick I do - Get the original Maintenace Repair book that GM made for the dealership mechanics back in the day. Great job, Bro!

It takes a long time to get all of the weak points taken care of to make a 50 year old car "reliable". Good tips. I'm looking to get a 71-72 with a olds 350 and a stick shift. Hard to find stick shift cars of this era and even more rare on the more upscale Oldsmobiles. I daily drive a 77 Buick Skylark with a 307 in it for the last 15 years. I paid $800 for it and put another $800 putting it on the road. It needed a new battery, new tires, new brakes and the fluids changed. Since getting it I had the "Outlaw" chrome wheels on it when I bought it and I traded them with a buddy for some steel wheels and just repainted them black and put some cheap baby moons them. Since i've owned it pulled out the seats, went to a Carpet outlet and paid $50 for a carpet remnant that was big enough to cover the floor, I've pulled out bench seat and bought some buckets out of a wrecked Cavalier for $25 and put them in. I went to a cap I also yanked out the back seat and just put a piece of 1/2" plywood there, covered it with the left over carpet and put some speakers in it. I've also repainted the block in place and repainted the valve covers and Air Cleaner. This summer while I'm on vacation I'm going to roll it in the garage and lay down a cheap paint job with the Duplicolor paint, two tone deep blue and white roof close to what it is now, It's a daily driver, I don't need a $10,000 paint job on it, it just has to look decent for cruise nights.

You clearly live in a place where there's no road salt. Then this is ok if you want to do that although depending on the modell parts might be a problem. Where I live they salt the roads like it's a contest. My 07 is just about to completely rust out. I just couldn't bring it over my heart to drive a real classic car in winter here.

Im definitely going for that 60s street car vibe! Also strongly agree cars now a days are making people bad drivers! They rely too much on all the features!

Hey, I was trying to search for old car reliability and ur vid came up. Idk much about american cars but I found one that is affordable for me right now and i'm not sure uf it is a good idea to buy it as an everyday car. It's a 1980 Oldsmobile 98 from Japan which I trust because they take very good care of their cars but i'm kind of skeptic about the deal. I am trying to zoom in on the engine because the price seems sketchy for a car like that so I feel like the catch is they are selling it for cheap because it might be problematic. Of course there is no photo of the hood popped up upfront they just took it from the side of the car and it's a little blurred as it is a little further away. Although, I am able to notice some minor rusts and the circular air filter seems rusted and beat up which I am worried about because I live in a very humid place and not many people out here know much about these cars. Is it a good or bad idea to get it? I need your opinion, based on your knowledge and experience. Thank you in advance🤙🏽 Btw ur stickers are bad ass🤣

Glad to hear ur trying to get into oldskool muscle! From japan! Thats great history but theres alot of factors that matter, if i was you I would try to meet up with the seller and check out the car in person! Alot of times its more about what your plans are for the car? Once you figure that out you can lay down the pluses and minuses, you need to know what you can live with, rust? Bad transmission? No interior? Also keep in mind any old car will be problematic into you get familiar with it, its gona take a while to get it 100% keep us posted we want to know how this goes!

@@skepticalmechanics17 Thanks for getting back. I can't fly to Japan to meet with the dealer though😅 I'm buying it off a website that ships it directly from Japan to your location. It's a great way to score some sick vintage japanese cars for cheap and jdm cars too. I know many who have purchased cars from the website and I have helped some friends get theirs and it seems legit and true to it's word. This is the first time I have seen an American car on it going for low though and I just sold my car so I need a temporary car. But with what you have said I might have to think about it because I don't know if I have the time but, I am up for a challenge though. Appreciate you🤙🏽 For anybody interested in the website and this is not a promo, it's called CarsFromJapan. Keep in mind tho, shipping costs and pricing may vary depending on your location.
