First, I'll show you two scenes in which I am using daily Dutch phrases to make an appointment with the hairdresser (de kapper), and what to say when you're at the hairdresser and want a haircut. After that, we're going to study these Dutch sentences to see how you can use these constructions in your Dutch daily life speech!

In het kort: je gebruikt “andere” voor een zelfstandig naamwoord “de andere mensen/dingen” of op zichzelf als het verwijst naar dingen of dieren. “Deze pannen staan hier en de andere staan daar”. Je gebruikt alleen “anderen” als het op zichzelf staat en naar mensen verwijst: “de helft van de familie is hier en de anderen zitten nog in de zaal”
