When I was a youngster my dad taught me a very simple lesson about reaching for more and having high aspirations. I would ask him for some money to go to a movie or whatever and he would ask how much I needed. Of course, I would ask for the "minimum" he would make it a point to pull out a big knot and slowly go through it to find the smallest bills and give me the minimum and/or make me go get change from a big bill. He gave me the minimum. The next time I would again ask for the minimum and when he gave me a big bill to make change, I would just ask if I could have the big bill instead. He wouldn't give it to me. He said I had to settle for what I asked for initially! The next time I asked for the big bill off the top! He gave it to me adding, ALWAYS shoot for the best, because even if you fall short, you will ALWAYS have enough for your basic needs. Lesson learned.
