It is so nice to see that the Sherpa people in Nepal and China still have many similarities as the knife that Tashi was carrying around his waist and the same knife that Dolma was using it to chop the meat is called ' Khukuri' in Nepalese and is common in Nepal. Similarly, the wooden basket used to carry the baby is also used by mothers in rural Nepal. Also, the chilli that Tashi used to make cheese soup is commonly found in Nepal . Jamyang, thank you for this Nice and interesting video!

Hello jamyang if you are reading this then please do me a favor if you could. Can you please visit Goma, Riu, salmaru villages in Shigatse. Actually these people are not Sherpa, they are called Shingsapa and also lhomi. I am one of the tribe, I live in Darjeeling India. We are some 15k people here and there are some 20k people in Nepal, Sankhuwasabha district, bhotkhola block, just below the Zenthang (we call it Dendang). There is very little or no anthropology survey done on our tribe. I am myself doing self research, so far all could find is the list of places that I mention is inhabited by Shingsapas in Tibet which I find in one of missionary language documentary. This means so much to me or say to my tribe. Also can you asked any of these people if they know about "shingshapa Karma Tseten" Which once believed to have rule Tibet for very short period of time but surprisingly the record about this king is missing in Tibetan historical Archives. Thank you. and Tashi delek.

Before Tenzin Norgay summit of Mt. Everest in 1953, the people living on the higher altitude around Namche Bazaar were Khumpa ཁུམ་པ་ & Barakpa བར་རག་པ་་ who lived at lower altitude, closer to Lukla airport. Later Tenzin Norgay was called Sherpa as his family name. Today most of the people from this area are known as Sherpa & Lama who are higher caste group. Sherpa & Lama people have their own Tibetan dialect ཡུལ་སྐད་, is not spoken in other areas of Nepal or Tibetan people who are known as Sherpa.
