I never had a daily stand up until I started a new job. It was so annoying... I mean everyone knew who was doing what so I wasn't sure why all the meetings. If I have a problem I send a chat message to the team.

I find daily standups excessive, especially with everyone using Slack and raising blockers there. We meet three times a week and that seems to be a good balance.

What's wrong with them?
@samuelh.21182 жыл бұрын
@@nezmustafa4271 You asked... With large teams, it's a nightmare for everyone participating. Nearly impossible to keep track and follow along with everyone's work unless you're the scrum master. And with agile, you're supposed to speak only to the task... Most people don't do that even after being told not to. So, it's a long meeting you have to be in every day and often unnecessary because the problems spoken about on standup are (in my experience) addressed in a call shortly after standup anyways... From the perspective of a lead/senior, you're dragged into meetings even more than usual and updating people who have no idea the technical challenges the team faces just for sake of saying _'I worked on ABC, now I'm working on DEFG. That means XYZ and here's why.'_ *every day.* And as I said, if there is a legitimate problem to discuss, that's often talked about after standup amongst the developers anyway. I maintain that standups are the worst part of the day, every day. I understand _a version_ of it is necessary. But fun? No. As a developer, when I am frequently interrupted with meetings/etc. it is a net loss for the company I am working for because time spent in agile 'rituals' updating management is time not spent doing my job. Three or even twice a week is much more reasonable.

Lol they can either be really constructive or they can be “is it done yet” type of calls.

Should there really need to be Daily Standups? Why can't it be alternate standups. That's every two days. My experience has shown daily stand ups to be a very quick way to build Mistrust in the team. Imo goes against the very purpose what Agile's trying to achieve. I don't believe in rigidity in practice as there's always a better way to do stuff. Then again that's just my opinion.

In the real world, this turns into dreadful meetings where the lead calls on each person to report their status and it takes forever
@marcobaldan1202 жыл бұрын
Well if it’s facilitated properly. It only takes 15 minutes. Either your scrum team is too large or your scrum master needs to parking lot some of the discussions
@im1in260m2 жыл бұрын
@@marcobaldan120 The scrum is not supposed to be a status report. It is to simply answer the three questions.

Some guidelines here are not valid example: SM & PO they don't need to join stand-up and if they do so they are passive unless asked for help by development, 3 questions are just a suggestion how to run this meeting

It feels amazing to attend stand-up meetings whether it is formal or informal. Everyone gets on one page and works towards the best possible way to figure out the solutions and tasks that need to be accomplished. Stand-ups should be a mandatory part of the workplace culture. As it is well said it makes the team stronger and more effective. Thank you for the remarkable video. Regards.

Why move right to left wouldn't you want to focus on the stuff the isn't close to being completed first
@bobbysoliz1690 Жыл бұрын
Because it is much cleaner to wrap things up that are "potentially shippable" than focus on things that aren't close to being done. That's just my take.

Hi Meghan, please use the terms referred in Scrum Guide if you are talking about Scrum. The reason why it’s called Daily Scrum because we want to be inclusive. I’ve worked with someone at a wheel chair. It wouldn’t be inclusive to call it Daily Standup when there is someone in the team who can not standup. I am happy to work with Atlassian to improve the content on Scrum.

If someone wants say "Daily scrum" to feel more inclusive it's a good thing. But I don't think saying "daily standup" "excludes" people who can't stand. We are complex and intelligent beings. People in wheel chairs will understand the purpose of the ceremony regardless of the name. It's not a matter of intellectual limitation. To be more inclusive let's teach the meaning of things like Meghan is doing. Let's build better spaces, sidewalks, access ramps, etc, so people on wheel chairs can be better served. To make it clear I'm not against people who want to be more inclusive with the way they speak, it's their way of seeing a problem where others don't see.

Daily meetings are waste of time. Childish thing: "Yesterday I did blah blah bla..., going to do blah blah bla..." So, i don't give a sh..about what you did yesterday and your plans. I'll forget it as soon as the meeting is over. If I need your feedback then I'll ping you. As for Jira, it is the last app I'd use. Excel sheet is better.
