Damn straight! All decades have great music....but I love the 80s for how *_sophisticated_* the pop music was. Songwriters skewed a bit older in the 80s....holdovers from the pop/rock explosion of the 60s & 70s. And synthesizers allowed for easy chord inversions and key changes that aren't as intuitive on guitar. The result? Deeply catchy little pop symphonies like "Hello." I have a soft spot in my heart for all that late 80s/early 90s MOR Adult Contemporary POP. Another gem is Michael Bolton's "Time Love & Tenderness." Such a well crafted catchy bold song. It's got that now cliché early 90s new jack swing vibe going on....almost sounds like something Michael Jackson would have recorded in the early 90s. It's easy and basic to dismiss that kind of music as cheesy and overly sentimental. And I mean yeah....it is! But it's crafted so well and is so fun and interesting from a pop songwriting perspective. It's kinda the polar opposite of the punk aesthetic, which I also love. I just love great music....whether a song has 25 chords and 7 key changes.....or just drones out on one chord the whole time. Great music is great music. :)

The blind girl is 26 year old Laura Carrington, one of the most gorgeous women I have ever seen. I mean, that girl was absolutely striking to look at! Hard to think that she is now 62 years old. And I'm betting she's still a stunner. Lionel got the inspiration for this song while thinking about how shy he was around girls when he was young.

Nobody seems to understand that this song is all happening in his mind. He is not "creeping" around the halls after her. He is imagining what her life might be. He is saying he admires her from a distance. He doesn't actually call her, and then hang-up the phone. He is imagining what it would be like to call her, to say "Hello...." >>>The very first line of the song is "I've been alone with you inside my mind." RogueRxyce even stops the video exactly at that point and laughs at the idea that the acting scene is happening.... and Lionel goes-off and starts singing. It's because he is not actually singing! He is lost in his own thoughts. The song is his inner voice. The song is the thoughts he is having in the privacy of his own mind. We cannot help having a crush on someone. He is not making any actual moves on this woman (and yes, she is a full grown, adult woman. She NOT a teenager). He is not actually following her around the school. He is imagining what her life at school must be like. He is thinking about how he loves and admires her from afar. He is wondering what classes must be like for her. He is not actually approaching her in anything but a perfectly professional manner. He cannot help how he feels about her. But he is NOT "creeping" on anyone! The second line of the song: "And in my dreams I've kissed your lips a thousand times." AGAIN! THIS IS HAPPENING IN HIS HEAD. He dreams about her. Nobody controls their own dreams. It is perfectly innocent. Third line of the song: "I sometimes see you pass outside my door." This is a totally innocent crush which is happening at a completely respectable DISTANCE. He wonders what life is like for her: "Cuz I wonder where you are. And I wonder what you do. Are you somewhere feeling lonely, or is someone loving you?" This is not him trying to seduce her. He actually CARES if she is okay, even if she is with someone else. They interact in the real world. They talk in class. He talks to her every single day. Yet, on a personal level, he wonders what it would be like to even say "Hello." On a PERSONAL level, he has never even introduced himself. Never even said hello. (And he never would! Because she is his student.) His private admiration of her is something he cannot change. Those are his private thoughts. If people would just understand that the song is his private thoughts.... this is entirely INNOCENT. Anyone who says that he has done A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G inappropriate here is failing to understand the subtlety of what is being presented. He is struggling with a love and admiration upon which he KNOWS he cannot act. He will NEVER approach her on a personal level. That is his struggle. Until, at the end, he gets that final moment when he sees that she might like him in a romantic way, too. (We STILL have no reason to believe that he will approach her romantically until after the semester is over and he is no longer her professor.) He has done nothing unprofessional. He was merely crushing from afar. Again, "I've been alone with you inside my mind. And in my DREAMS I've kissed your lips a thousand times." Innocent crush. All in his imagination. In his dreams. No "creeping."

Just because someone admires another person from a distance and even is infatuated by a person they are attracted to, that does NOT mean they are "creeping on someone". Geez, is there ANY romance left in the world?

@@NativeNYerChicHK do you think he has a control over who he falls in love with just because he's a grown ass man or what? 😂😂 I'd say given the situation he was in, he still kept it quite respectful and tasteful... the video is exactly about how he tries to keep his distance, as he should, while still fighting the feelings and the need to tell her... well at least that's my interpretation 😄

So when you crush on someone from afar, but you know the only way to bring your crossed paths even closer is to manipulate the circumstance to bring that about, I suppose some would consider that "creeping", if the affection wasn't mutual. Fortunately for the female of the human species, the resourcefulness of the male of the species can sometimes solve the question of "is there mutual attraction" by putting himself out there and putting that question to the test. Otherwise there's a lot of couples out there who would never have gotten together.

In 2023 people interpret thinks so differently. He isn't actually following her around. It music video meant to tell a story...his mind is wondering about her during her day...wondering what is she doing? Also she didn't get upset when he said are you the one I am looking for...it is phrase to me say you have found someone. This generation is wiser in terms of access to education but they are so weak minded. So easlily upset over everything.

'Hello' by Lionel Richie is a Great Classic Song and stands the test of time. I think in the video when, he begins to sing in the classroom and hallways, he's singing to her in his mind, as he see's her throughout his day at school, but we the audience see's his thoughts played out in a love song in real time. He tries to stir up the nerve, to get to know her personally, when he comes up behind her, while outside. I believe he was going to break the ice by saying Hello, and not touch her hair. He finally calls her on the phone to say, Hello! and she recognizes his voice, so she make a bust of him to show that she always secretly liked or perhaps loves him, as he always secretly loved her, It's a perfect segue for them to get to know one another. Regardless of the teacher/student relationship, they might be each others one and only TRUE LOVE. Hopefully, she will become the Love of his life and his 'LADY'🎵😉🥰 RogueRxyce! 'HELLO!' 😂😆😅🤣

I hate to be such a smart guy who thinks he's all that but you don't have to be able to see to search and look for something or someone. He was on his A Game back in the day. In the 1980's he had hit after hit. The Young Lady who plays The Blind Student Laura played Simone Hardy on General Hospital, The Dance Teacher was the Late Michael Bennett who was the Assistant Choreographer for the very first Production of dreamgirls, in 1981, he also did Videos for Billy Joel (Uptown Girl), Pat Benetar (Love Is A Battlefield), and he also worked with Lionel on Running With The Night. He's probably best known for his work with Michael Jackson during The Thriller era. Sadly Michael would be one of many folks who would lose his life to AIDS.

So admiring someone from a distance is creeping? Having a crush on someone from afar is creeping? This is obviously not high school, or even a college. This looks like an evening class that adults can go to like a community center, to learn about art, crafts, pottery, and other things like that. It's no wonder why this generation of men, are afraid to even look at a woman. Everything is so damn Woke now. Everything is so damn politically correct. If I hadn't admired my wife from afar, waiting to build up the courage to ask her out, we would have never even met and gotten married.

Lionel Hated the Bust, and Claims he "Destroyed it and left it on the Table" after the video. When he asked about the Bust during the shoot, the Director Simply told him "She's Blind, Lionel".. He's discussed having it Re-created for people to buy. And Although People today didn't like the Video, the SONG say's it all. Loving Someone with all your heart from afar because you never found the Opportunity to Say it. Giving This Song to your Girl/Guy was the Perfect way to Tell Someone without the Awkward Encounter or Rejection. Been There, Felt that, so it really resonates with me.

Unfortunately, psychopathic stalkers have made women skeptical and wary (with good reason) of genuine admiration. There was a time when girls were told to never except a man's first attempt as they will appear too 'easy' and if a man was truly interested, he wouldn't give up so easily. So now, songs and storylines like this one are looked at as stalker depictions.

Listen we’ve all admired someone from a distance, so the sentiment in this song IS relatable. BUT the set up in this video IS creepy. I don’t care what anyone else in these comments say. This shit is inappropriate AND not just now, but back then too. The power dynamics between professor and student is imbalanced and so that authority needs to be respected, BY self control of the person IN authority. Let’s stop romanticizing grossness of grown ass men.

Hello Rogue...I love your reaction on this vid. I most say...you are a head turner and gorgeous. Your name though...I saw your name the first time at one of the marvel comics X-man. This woman that could controle the whether. Have you ever listen to Marcelito Pomoy, or this woman from the Netherland, Glennis Grace? She sings a lot of Whitney Houston songs, but when listening to her, you'll think it's Whitney herself reincarnated, especially "Run to you"...amazing rendition. If not, I think you should check them out...you might like them. Anyway..nice reaction Rogue...:-)

I took my first gf to his concert. Watching this brings me back to our relationship and those times. This was back in the early days of music videos, they were coming up with all times of weird concepts.
