As a chemistry student I feel like I have to point out that the cotton part is just plain wrong: it depends entirely on what nature the dirt has. 3:20 It is not a question of natural or artificial plastic. Polyester is hydrophobic (avoids water) and thus mixes better, holding with non-polar substances like oil. Cellulose has polar groups and is a hydrophilic plastic, which is why oil holds less well to a cotton material made of cellulose. If the dirt was hydrophilic then it is harder to wash off cotton and easier to wash off polyester.

Oh yeah, I've been in so many situations like this (unfortunately) and my hands started sweating just seeing that, I've lost so many sandals / slippers pedalling away fast from things because all the adrenaline makes me super sweaty and it just slips off your feet while trying to go fast. I've lost 2 bikes in my life to thieves, one of this cases I was like 8, enjoying some ice cream with the bike on the floor in front of me, some older boy came across me, looking super impressed and saying nice things about the bike, then he asked if he can test it a little, I said yes and yeah... he tested it and ran away leaving me in tears and screaming, ohhh how naive I was.

@@eloycneto I got upset when I got my first bike & my dad insisted in engraving my name into it in a hidden location in case it ever got stolen. It did get vandalised by some bully boys at school once, school called in the police to talk to the boy responsible & give him a good scare. Different countries, different attitudes towards tollerance of crimes I guess. I mean I used to chain it up if leaving it in public places for hours, but never feared it would be snatched from me! Nowadays I leave my car running unsupervised without any worries too (well I was during covid, had to keep the battery charged, so I'd just go out to where it was parked on the street, put my keys (car & house) into it, turn it on, then walk down to the corner store to buy some groceries & collect my keys back out of my car on my way back home. There's about 400 units in my street btw, so always people walking past to have seen the car, but not like they could actually do anything with my car if they stole it, police would be onto it, so really no point. I really can't relate to the "being jumped" thing, just bizarre to me that that wouldn't cause a major police response & punishment too severe to not bring an end to that behaviour
