We technically do. Chara is present during all routes, as the narrator and the name of the SOUL in the bottom left corner. In fact, one could even interpret it as such that, although it is technically you (the player) who is making the choice for them, it is ultimately Chara, not Frisk, that makes the decision to forgive and comfort Asriel, since Chara is represented as somewhat a guide for Frisk through the text boxes, and you make the decision utilizing the text box. It also ties up the fact that your decisions influence Chara's worldview throughout the game, with Chara brutally and ragefully murdering Asriel for failing them in the genocide route, and them forgiving and understanding him in the pacifist route. Both polar opposites.

The Terraria protagonist has a lot of experience exploring caves, fighting monsters, and saving NPCs he stumbles upon. Only problem I see with him rescuing me is that he won't actually escort me out of the cave, but rather talk to me once and then leave, assuming I'll just teleport back home after he interacts with me as if he were trying to rescue the Goblin Tinkerer or Wizard.
