I’m a new grad NICU nurse. If I could tell nursing students anything it would be to focus more on the knowledge that you gain rather than your grades. Once you graduate no one cares if you got straight As or all Cs. In fact ALOT of experienced nurses say C students make the best nurses because typically those students have a better grasp on the content they just don’t test well. I did NOT get straight As & I was the ONLY new grad nurse in my class to be offered a job in a level IV NICU. Test anxiety ALWAYS got the best of me during nursing school BUT I passed boards on the 1st try. Do NOT compare yourself to your friends or other students just study hard & give it your best shot. Good luck to you all. Keep your heads up & do not give up!!!!! ❤️

Hey ya'll! Another tip that will help you get comfortable with medical terminology and patient interaction: work in a hospital if you can! I'm working as a patient transporter, and I always offer to help nurses and CNAs (no matter how dirty the job-literally). I'm building important relationships, and because I'm a helpful person to go to, they are happy to answer my questions, show me things, and explain what they are doing. I'm still pre-nursing, but this is making a world of difference. I plan to do transport for at least a year, then move up to CNA and eventually, RN! Thank you for these tips!

There cannot be enough emphasis on practice questions. You really do have to forget everything you knew about answering academic questions because NCLEX-style questions are presented at face value with the expectation that YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT ELSE you have to critically consider to get to the correct answer without being given every bit of information you'd actually have in a real-life situation. You have to draw from your knowledge to fill in the gaps for each specific scenario. It's so hard to explain in a way that gives a full picture of what that process is like. Learning to answer questions is as hard (it was for me, at least) as learning the patho behind disease processes and takes discipline. You have to actively think critically, as in, make a concerted effort, repeatedly until it becomes second nature. I struggled for all of foundations and the first few weeks of med surg 1 at doing this before I started to get it. It's the biggest thing to overcome because you have to remodel your reasoning skills and the way you approach problems in order to read a situation and respond appropriately as a nurse (as opposed to a non-nurse). That's what these questions are aimed at doing. NCLEX review books are invaluable. Good luck to you as you finish up! I'll finish in August (2020) so I have a little way to go. And good luck to any future nursing students here. Nursing school will push you to your limits (regularly) but if you know without a doubt this is what you want to do, and you can keep yourself grounded and focused when the hard moments come around, the payoff is better than you can imagine.

I struggle with comprehension and so I get a lot of extra help, extra time on exams. My school also provides multiple resources for students. They provide a coach who helps you with studying, time management, anything that you struggle with, they also have tutors that you can see once or twice a week for the semester, and an app you can download on your computer that you can take notes on it and it records the lecture. You just have to sign up for it before the semester, which I did! Also, not related to nursing but you look like Salma Hayek 🌹🥰

I world also add, don’t be afraid to be wrong about something. These are opportunities to learn. Yes raise your hand even if you’re not sure if you’re right and yes absolutely volunteer to do things within your limitations as a student in clinicals and absolutely make yourself known to your professors and teachers early on, thank them, ask them questions and talk with them. Another things that helped me during my first clinical was self deprecating humour. My clients were mostly out at their ease by this. If you do all this stuff and others end up giving a hard time because of this, that’s a then problem not a you problem. And it may help to deliberately shield yourself from hearing about other people’s results in their schooling too just to keep your focus on you and your grades. No sense comparing yourself to others if your processes and practices are different. You’re in this program for you and your career not for anyone else.

The last one I totally agree on. I just finished up my CNA and in my clinicals, once I checked off on something, I was always running around for something to do. I was always asking the CNAs that worked there "what do you need help with?" I don't know if it was the willingness to learn or my ADD, but I learned a lot!

Finishing up my AS in spring 2022. Starting nursing in between then and fall 2022. I’m excited but nervous given the fact I started at the worst time, during the pandemic. Everything was online. I graduated back in 2011 and having to start over and learn all of this information over again by myself was very difficult. I just hope as I go into nursing school I can gradually adapt to the environment and learn more easily. I’m so intimidated. 😩

The Saunders book! I have it in my must-haves video! It breaks down by semester and has practice questions at the end of each reading!

If you want an advanced regents diploma (I only know from NY, I’m not sure how it works in other states) I’m pretty sure the basics are Geometry, Chemistry, Algebra 2, and 4 years of a language. Try taking part in clubs and applying to honor societies, most importantly don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Challenge yourself with Harder classes if you think you would be capable. You got this girl, high school sucks but it’s also the best four years of your life. Make sure to surround yourself with the right people, you’ll do great.

At my college there are lots of students taking pre-reqs to the nursing program! If you can do that it’s a great idea! I took some dual enrollment classes and I am so happy I did! I actually got accepted for the Fall semester after my FIRST application! Best of luck to you on your nursing journey!

U have to do Human Anatomy, psychology, chemistry, and maybe physics.
@karladelarosa98963 жыл бұрын
You’ll need Main classes: Anatomy 201, chemistry 101, microbiology, physiology 202 Prerequisites are Stats, english101, bio101, com101, philosophy 101, political science 101, history 107 or 108. These were the ones that were recommended.

I am currently in 10th grade and thinking I want to be an L&D nurse, I'm freaking out because my grades are slipping in math, but I'm not sure what all kinds of math are super important in nursing. Of course there are things like figuring out how much meds to give, but are things like geometry and simplifying radicals super necessary? And what all extra classes should I take in highschool to help me do well in nursing school?
