Welcome to our KZbin channel! In today's episode, we are thrilled to take you along on an exciting journey of reviving a forgotten classic: this 1955 Chevy. Join us as we embark on this captivating adventure to rescue this vintage gem from almost going to the scrapyard! Super sketchy getting it down this big hill in Iowa (it actually used to be further up but the new buyers of this house didn't want it there). We fought timing, carb problems, brakes and batteries! But the dump truck made it home 150 miles!

Awesome work gents! As a Baby Boomer gear head it warms my heart that young folks like yourselves are interested in old cars and have acquired the mechanical skills to get them up and running. Gives me some hope for the future of our currently f*^ked-up country.

@@DailyDrivenDeathTraps I like rowdy! Me and my gear-head buddies from high school were kind of rowdy ourselves. In 1974 my two best friends and I all owned 1970 Mustang Mach 1’s. Each had a 4-speed mated to a 351 Cleveland. We all modified our cars with hot cams, headers, big Holley carbs, glass pack mufflers…you know that drill. The muscle car scene was in full force in SoCal during the early 70’s and after the movie American Graffiti came out in 1973 (the year we graduated HS) there was a huge resurgence of cruising. In ‘74 we were all under 21 and could not get into bars so cruising E Street in San Bernardino was the place to be. Drinking and driving wasn’t as big a deal back then (penalty-wise) so we did a lot of that when we could figure out how to buy beer. When things were slow on E Street we’d head over the Magnolia Ave in Riverside. Two or three times on our way there, along with our buddy Gerry who had a ‘69 Mach 1, we’d block all four lanes of the freeway by slowing down to about 35 mph. That way we would have enough room for a four way drag race. We were sure lucky the CHP didn’t catch us doing that sort of thing. We all had at least one “exhibition of speed” ticket from the San Bernardino Police Department. Like I said, I don’t mind rowdy at all!

In 1975 I learned to drive in a 1955 Chevy PU. It had the original bed on it but besides that it looked very much like this truck. Broken window and rusted out floorboards. Vacuum windshield wipers. 3 on the tree, used to get stuck in 1st gear had to move the shift linkage at the firewall. Gas tank leaked behind the seat. I went to senior prom in that truck ! Was a hot mess with sheets covering hole in the seat. **GOOD TIMES !**

😂😂😂 That must've been one interesting Prom date afterwards! I drove my uncle's 1989 Pontiac Sunbird GT turbo convertible to my last school dance (I didn't get to graduate because I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 16). I tried to grab a titty that night and my date wasn't about it...but she was definitely top-heavy...😂😂😂 She's still a good friend, but we both married someone else. I took my wife to her Prom when we were bf/gf, but we took my 1992 Acura Integra.

I dunno how well it does in engine revivals, but I know on two-stroke engines that canned fuel is crap. If you got a two stroke that won't start, drain that canned fuel out and put some real fuel in. Nice truck. We had a '65 chevy dump truck about that size when I was a kid. We'd take it to the creek and load it with gravel and then dump it in our driveway to our barn whenever the driveway started to get a wallow or a muddy spot. It spent most of its time parked on a hill in a field too though, lol.

Awesome save guys. One thing. I think this is actually a 1956. It looks like it has the split emblem on the fender which is '56 only, '55 was a one piece. But that does look like a replaced fender. However the interior is painted grey. 55's had white interiors. They were grey from '56-58 then '59 was a fawn color that would continue on the 60-66 generation. Thanks again for saving this one, I saved a '56 3600 pickup myself so I love to see other ones saved.

Definitely a 56, the vin will have the year in it and also a quick way to tell a 56 from 55 is the fender emblem is above the fender style line, hood emblem also "points" up on 56 where a 55 points down.

Next time, take some brake, clean or carburetor cleaner and put that down into your fuel pump. Brake cleaner will cause the diaphragm to expand. If it’s still good, it’ll make it soften up better than putting fuel down in there.

The wax around the plugs may be parrafin wax. If the plugs that the last guy to touch it had changed were rusty, parrafin can be used like a pentrating lube. You use a torch to heat the bolt or plug up cherry red and then hold a plain wax candle to it and it will suck in the wax. Timing is off probably because they pulled the distributor to use a drill and a tool to prime the oil pump and pump oil through the motor. The new parts tell me that either they were in the distributor replacing clearly bad parts or parts that were robbed for another vehicle. Also youre supposed to retime the ignition timing regularly to compensate for wear and tear and every time you do a tune up. The distributor cap and rotor can be a little different than the parts being replaced because of a different brand or just the manufacturing tolerance allows enough play in it that the timing will be slightly different from part to part. Yes new parts can be junk, but as long as you buy quality parts from a reputable brand you can still find good ones. Most parts house batteries will be low on charge. Put them on a charger before you use them or you will burn them up. A boat fuel tank can be a life saver when it comes to rescues as well. Less work to just hook that up then fiddle with possibly rotted and nasty tanks. Also that carb seems to have accelerator pump issues.

Like the video. Cool you guys got it up and going. I would recommend an oil change after you warmed it up a bit cuz who knows how old that oil is and if there is sludge in it. Id also recommend a fuel filter before the carburetor. Cool to see you guys drive it 150 miles👍

Thanks! and for sure will do, we already had the oil, just wanted to get moving to get home quicker haha. Easy task but often overlooked!

i enjoyed your hands on approach and your humor. I have a soft spot for '50s pickups. Please don't dump gas on the ground. it kills a lot more than grass. if you dump it on a dirt driveway it still ends up in the ground water. Please dispose of properly. thank you.
