They've had over 35 months in the industry... I know, its quite a while. But if you're going to compare them to McFly, then experience is the only thing in it. I'm a massive fan of both but I personally can tell from McFly's writing abilities and musical style that they have really developed over time, and I hope that One Direction will continue to do so too!

Clearly what I mean there, is that they're a band. Being in a boyband usually means singing without instruments and getting other people to write songs for them. Whereas McFly sing, play their own instruments, write their own songs and produce their own songs.

I agree it doesn't make mcfly better, it all depends on your taste in music. I listen to both bands. I am saying you cannot compare them. They're styles are different but they are both good. I'm glad Tom doesn't hold back on his skills just because it's not their usual style, but rather puts them to use somewhere else. I also agree with you that mcfly has more experience. I figure if they can sing without autotune they all deserve some level of respect.

That doesn't mean McFly are any better, they just have an incredibly talented writer (as well as front-man, Danny) who was kind enough to write for a fellow band. It just goes to show that McFly care for One Direction and, as you seem like such a fan, you should too.

YOU CANNOT COMPARE THEM. McFly have been in the industry for 10 YEARS, are are therefore more experienced - you can hear the maturity in their music. One Direction have been judged by their very first songs, their looks, their personalities, religions etc in their first 3 YEARS in the industry. Who says they won't progress to become as amazing musicians as McFly? This is only the start for them, so give them a chance!

actually, Mcfly wrote all their songs, but they wrote a few with other bands, who they happened to know ..they were never given songs to record. And from the start they auditioned for a drummer, bassist etc...1D are good, but they don't play their own stuff...niall playing guitar is not the same as the level McFLY play instruments on.

He may do, but for the most part, One Direction don't play instruments on a regular basis, McFly on the other hand, do. Which adds to why One Direction are a boyband and McFly are a band. Just because McFly are males in a band, it doesn't automatically make them a boyband - you wouldn't call The Beatles a boyband, would you? Same thing with McFly.

To be fair, he can play guitar, but he doesn't very often. Where as McFly play instruments all the time. One Direction aren't just as good as McFly, they're in two completely different genres of music, they cannot be compared. One group are completely self-sufficient, whereas the other rely on their record to get their songs written and composed.

A boyband often don't write their own songs, don't play any instruments and dance at a performance... A boyband rarely writes their own songs or plays instruments. Most of them do choreographed dances. Think Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, Big Time Rush, One Direction etc. Some of their "live" performances are lip synced. That sort of thing.
