Don’t wait for people like that to love you. I know there’s always that yearning for what could have been if your birth parent was here but just love your siblings, husband, and your children. Build a good life with those who truly care and ignore all the other noise. Thank the negative people for coming into your life to teach you what not to do and for motivating you to be a better person. You sound like a good woman with a strong head on your shoulders surrounded by loving people. Keep building on that and I know you will be fine. I used to only think these kind of stories were only in movies, then when i grew up, i realized it takes a real story for them to create something to write about or film on. Hopefully your storm is over and only sunny days ahead of you.

Sister I feel your pain and sorrow. I never knew my mother because she died while I was a baby. When I married, my husband and I just went to the court house. We didn't get anything and didnt expect anything. I'm lucky that I married a great man and have a wonderful life. My grandma (real mom's side) reminds me to live in the moment and enjoy my life because I'd suffered enough. Thats what you need to do. Let go of the pain and love your family and kids and enjoy the happiness that you have now. Your mom must have watched out for you and your siblings from above to give you such a great life now even if she's not here with you. Be happy so she can rest peacefully. Love yourself. Dont live in the past or pain anymore.

To the author in this story - your story sound so odd? You, your hubby, and your bothers/sister to their spouses - everyone seem to have some sort of education, a job so why still depend on the OGs to start your life? And keep dogging your heads to your OGs for everything? Grow the heck up and put on your big pant because you have no more parents or grand parents; take care of yourself, your own family and love only those that love you. This is America and no one waits for anyone. My wife and I, we both have parents, siblings, cousins, and relatives. But we worked since we were 15 yrs old, finished high school, finished college on our own $$. And we owned our own house before we think about wedding. We paid and planned our own wedding both traditional and American styles without bothering anyone including our parents. Everyone just be our guests. We owe no ones anything, we live a free and happy life. You should do the same and stop yearning for love from people who don't care to love you. It is worthless to give time, energy, stress, money, and etc! Say no to things that are not your responsibility. Because if you don't stop...….you can get sick and die out of this sadness on wanting love from people who don't love you!

True, I agree with all the points you've given here. Self love is extremely important as well and forgetting the past. Ua ib siab and move is will be great. But I also think you're missing the main point of the author's message here though. The author is expressing her missing piece that she had to grow up without. She's yearning for that final touch from her mother that she'll never experience. Having a mother present on one's wedding day is so crucial for a Hmong daughter. That special moment where the mom will fix that daughter's outfit for the last time has so much meaning and she missed out on that. That final word of wisdom of to be a good nyab, she lost that. I don't think you'll understand because you're a guy. Ask your wife, she'll elaborate ;) I see that you have both parents growing up so you wouldn't truly understand the author's standpoint (shrug).

I have a stepmom like this too. Although she haven’t said anything directly to us but she has shown us many times she only loves her kids only. But we’re not mad at her. We understand we’re not her biological children therefore she not able to love us. We just accepted that we don’t have a mom anymore and don’t expect any kind of love from her. We just take whatever she gave us and leave it at that as long as there no hate towards each other. We will only love and expect love from our dad only.

I couldn’t listen to the whole story. Too depressing. I could never be with a man that doesn’t take care of his children. Says ALOT about the man. Same with women. Yet, they keep opening their legs.
