I can’t for the life of me figure the first part out. My needle winds up in the knot made to tie the slip chain and first five beads on. What am I doing wrong?

Add 5 seed beads. Reinforce by going around again through all the five beads. Make some knots. Advance the needle by going through a few more beads to get away from the knot and to position the needle to make the next pattern
