I’m so glad to be free of the last tiny amount of dairy I was eating. Watching the recent Panorama documentary in the UK was the final straw! If dairy farming is THAT difficult, that they have to impregnate the cows, kill the calf’s and carry on breeding freak unnatural animals that produce huge amount of milk, with udders almost touching the ground, something is very wrong! If something is that difficult, changes need to be made. Buying from small “dairy kind” suppliers is not the answer for our enormous ever growing population of humans. My love affair with cheese is well and truly over!

Very true. All this obsession about what is good for health and if you look at what makes sense, in the simplest terms, the milk of each mammal is suited perfectly for the baby of that mammal. For how fast they grow. For example, a calf grows to full size in about a year. For humans to take that milk and drink it, they are taking something into their body that is suited for extreme growth. On the most basic level it doesn't make sense. When you take away all the bias and all that. It's important that we have empathy for other beings, otherwise the world will never ever become kinder. It just won't. And there are so many alternatives. Why would someone insist on drinking the milk that comes from another species? It's really bizarre actually. I mean why not cat milk or dog milk? You know it's just a cultural thing.

YES, dairy is bad for me. Let me explain. I learned many years ago about the negative effects of dairy to my body. Immediate issues: inflammation, indigestion, and sinus problems, to name a few. Likely long-term effects: high cholesterol, heart disease, and last but not least, cancer. So, I made the decision to eliminate dairy, and remained dairy free for years. Recently, I started eating dairy again, for about a month. My body had an instant adverse reaction. Now I have stopped consuming dairy, and I feel so much better. I will not do that to my body again. It was a very awful and painful lesson.

Within a week, several, seemly unrelated, health conditions started to improve: breast and uterus issues, joint issues, skin conditions, stomach issues, allergies. I was healthy overall, or so I thought. I attributed my maladies to aging and environmental factors. After realizing what dairy was doing to my body, I don’t miss it at all; not even cheese. For some reason, if I don’t supplement calcium at about 1500 mg daily, I get leg and foot. Cramps. I use red algae calcium. Is that ok?
@patriciaorourke18162 жыл бұрын
Not a medical person, so this is just advice, but you could try eating more potassium rich foods such as bananas, and see if that helps. Potassium can help with cramps.

@patriciaorourke18162 жыл бұрын
I got breast cancer 7 years ago, and was told to avoid soy like the plague, because of the high estrogen. It's in EVERYTHING we eat these days (processed food, like deli meats, cooked ham, biscuits, cereals, etc) so the last thing you need is to be eating more soy if there's a risk of bc such as a family history, environmental issues and so on. You may have heard that menopausal women are often advised to boost their soy intake for that very reason - they need more estrogen. But this can be a double-edged sword, so be very careful with soy!

Is nonfat Greek yogurt an exception? No saturated fat, very little lactose, studies that suggest added benefits over other nonfat dairy products.... - is it a healthful food overall? Is the estrogen content reduced by the activities of the yogurt-culture bacteria? And what about the probiotic benefits?

Can you please address the issues of pesticides used on plant foods and there effects with our health?
@miracoli162 жыл бұрын
Cows eat plants. So if there are pesticides on the plants the pesticides will be concentrated in the cows and when you eat products from the cows, you eat concentrated pesticides. So you better decide to eat plants from biological farming.😉

Saturated fats were the norm back in the day, then went out of favor in the 80s, then came back strong with keto... how *CONCLUSIVE* is the data these days, that saturated fat *CAUSE* brain and heart disease.. versus simply *CORRELATED with it (like its association with prostate/breast cancer)? Regarding calcium (700mg of calcium/day) to reduce colon cancer, Monica Reinagel has a great podcast episode on the danger of calcium supplementation.

I no longer consume dairy and am a PBWF guy. But this argument is very one-sided and does not take into account some of the benefits of low fat, lactose free, or fermented dairy options in moderation. Diet is not a zero-sum game. When influencers ignore the opposing viewpoint for the sake of promoting their own agendas, I hold them suspect.

The almond milk varieties that come without sugar have added sunflower oil, which leads to too much omega 6.
@Madasin_Paine2 жыл бұрын
Avoid any almond milk. Horrible for bees, rivers, and it doesn't offer much good for the dollar nor its waste. Those trees need a lot water and these drought years lead some growers to use nasty water options including purchase of much deeper more problematic well water and produced water of fracking by gas-oil boom bust companies. Oat milk, soy milk and even hazelnut milk would be better options.
@miracoli162 жыл бұрын
@@Madasin_Paine Oatmilk also containes sunflower oil. The fact that the industry uses so much sunflower oil is a real problem! They could use high oleic sunfower oil but i guess they don't care and don't want to spent a bit more money for healthy products
@Madasin_Paine2 жыл бұрын
@@miracoli16 I see. Hioleic has less Omega 6 too I think. Compare nutrition facts label and ingredient list between brands. As another example TJs and others has a house brand soy milk which is only pressed organic soybeans and filtered water. Its hard to beat the dollar to nutrition ratio. Protein very high and it still allowed the heart protection labeling. Eden Soy is unbeatable but a premium product however their quality control, morality and use of beans national and not Amazonian etc as well as flavor makes it appealing. A little regular whole soy goes a long way Avoid texturized or high heat high pressure chemical processing and drying. Hazelnut milk doesn't require bees to pollinate unlike almonds which kill billions of bees and weaken wild bees. Not to mention the incredible amounts of water. Three almonds gives more value than a cup of that "milk". Skins on nuts or peanuts as well as eating the whole nut confers those positive longevity qualities. So peanut butter is more neutral. Fiber matters and not over milling nuts and grains thus partially digested food from small intestine can feed and sustain more diverse robust larger colonies of flora in the gut, allowing higher satiety less colon disease less glycemic load and better sense of well-being. I don't recommend a Vitamix or smoothie diet whatsoever. Its damn unnatural really and avoids natural chewing salivation mixing digestive enzyme stimulation transit time absorption rates satiety and feeds the large bowel flora less. Besides eating should be more slow pleasurable sensory and social. Food, for thought. Thanks for the info, too! To your health!

@@Madasin_Paine I'm fro germany where we have other brands than in the US. I don't like the taste of soymilk. I like Alpro NOT MILK (oats) very much. It tastes amazing similar to Cow-milk and very good in coffee. And the barista Oatmilk from LIDL. They are my absolute favorites. Do you know them? The first one contains sunflower oil but is available in a low fat- version. The other brand is made with rapeseed-oil which is better than sunflower-oil. I mix them.
Thank you for this podcast! You covered health risks of milk and most milk derivatives like cheese, butter, etc., but what about yogurt and buttermilk? Are they any better or equally bad? Thanks in advance.

Dairy is dairy. There's no way around it. It all comes from the same source. It all has lactose. There are many alternatives. I use a coconut based yogurt. It's way better than any of the other soy yogurts I think in my opinion anyway, The texture is thick and wonderful, culina is the brand. And either way it all comes from the same cruel industry, if you care about that some do some do not. As far as health, there are so many alternatives. There's no reason to eat dairy.
