Yes, Ok I forgot about the sticks. We would walk to Dairy Queen (Never liked calling it DQ), and everything was 10¢, except the "Royal Treats" Banana Splits, Strawberry Shortcakes, Hot Fudge Brownie Delights, etc. We would buy a bag of 10 Mr. Misty Kisses, (they were frozen slush, push-ups, in plastic containers) they were, soooo good and full of flavor! They eventually, got rid of them and had the frozen Star Kiss popcicles. We would get Dilly Bars, DQ cartwheels (ice cream sandwiches), the Buster Bars were more expensive, because of the nuts in them. Oh, the sprinkles on a dipped cone, were heavenly! They had different flavored dips: chocolate, cherry and butterscotch. The sundaes were good and I loved the Strawberry Ice cream soda with seltzer water! No one else, seemed to like them. I cried when they were discontinued. 💔😢😭 In the 1980's, where I lived, Dairy Queen sold Banana Pudding Blizzards. They were out of this world! Don't know why they stopped selling them. I do love the Chicken strip baskets, especially the BBQ one! Now, I will have to go to Dairy Queen and enjoy some of these goodies, before they're gone. 😆🥳💖💖💖💖💃🏽

People here would alternate between a DQ and a local store for both soft serve ice cream and socializing. Both DQ's vanished from the landscape over 20 years ago. Shortly after, one of the local drive ins disappeared. Amazingly, one local store is still open and actually flourishing. Still, the small town social scene of the '50's, '60's and '70's is gone, never to return. Sad.

When I was a kid around 8 years old I used to love DQ chocolate shakes! My sister, who just got her driver's license, used to volunteer to go pick up our treats on a summer evening. It used to take her so long to get back, I could never figure out why because DQ wasn't very far from our house. When she got home she would always say, "Wow, they were really busy tonight!" Years later we found out the real reason: she used to drive past the house of the guy she had a crush on just to see if he was home! My Grandparents had a Dairy Queen about two blocks from their house in Winsted, Connecticut, it was always an iconic staple of the town on main st for decades, still basically looks the same as it did in the 1960s. Right down the road was one of the original Subway locations in the United States, but unfortunately it looks like it's not there anymore, I remember it was still open in the early 2000s and still had the old style brown sign

In regards to the term "soft serve ice cream", I was buying ice cream at Kroger. I noticed that some of their boxes said ice cream and some said dairy dessert. I called their support number. They said that this is a legal term. The food has to have a certain percentage of cream to be called ice cream. Otherwise, it has to be called something else most commonly dairy dessert.

I loved the CUSTARD soft ice cream from it's beginning. By the early 80's, the taste of that Custard Ice Cream, disappeared. Some other soft ice cream took it's place, and taste was never again like before. There was a Dairy Queen in my state, but with COVID, I believe it closed it's door for good. By 2012, I stopped to get a soft ice cream and had to toss it out. It wasn't soft ice cream, it was ice. Just ice mixed with some trace of chocolate. I never went back.

I remember growing up and visiting my grandparent in Topsham, Maine and getting a treat at my local Dairy Queen! I couldn’t wait to run down the block to that heavenly DQ! And I’m happy to say it’s still in business to this day! What a treat the Peanut Butter Parfait was to me! That hot fudge syrup mixed with ice cream and peanuts just made me happier than just about anything. Funny how small pleasures made you so happy as a child! And many happy memories of eating many dilly bars and another of my favorites, the Buster Bar! It seemed huge to me as a kid! That hard chocolate, fudge and peanuts alway made my day! Many happy memories indeed!

Love this channel...Still have a Dairy Queen her in southern Oregon. We used to have an A&W with car side service and those frozen root beer ice. Good hot food; until the early 2000's. I enjoy watching Recollection Road as a senior. who remembers, so many of the videos and how things were then VS. Now.. A simpler life, yes treats too when possible, Home cooking, coherent families, and so much.

We had a DQ in out small town. Back in the 60's when I was in elementary school my mom would let my brother and I walk to the DQ on on the last day of school and spend a whole dollar for lunch, we couldn't eat up a dollars worth of food we would get so much. My how times have changed.

I remember growing up as a kid that there was a particular Dairy Queen shack that was only open during the Summer. The rest of the year it was closed. I did not get to go to it often but if we were in the neighborhood and it was summer, we would stop to order Dairy Queen treats. Now there are various Dairy Queens that would have been open all the year if not for the virus. Thanks for the video.

Great memories growing up in the 60s with DQ. If I remember correctly, the Brazier shoppes not only had food, but they had chocolate DQ ice cream too. I was a big fan of chocolate/banana shakes, my mom made them at home. The DQ near our house would make me one even though it wasn't on the menu. They charged me an additional 5 cents... Good times.

Our coach used to take us to the Dairy Queen every time we won a game in our Little League in northeastern Ohio. But I had a paper route so I always had a few nickels and I would stop and get a hot dog on a steamed bun with chili and cheese sometimes. The chili was great and I used to love eating those hot dogs. There were only about 5,000 people in my hometown but you'd see just about everybody there. It was the hangout.

Very overpriced a small icy is $4.50 here, a small. Add a dilly bar and you are looking at $8.50. Ridiculous and the dilly (cherry hard shell coating) is so thin, it’s barely there.
