Seeing her reaction made me cry. Winning a Tony at that age. Now she'll be singing in the Secret Garden concert as Martha and Sydney Lucas (also nominated for best featured actress last year for Fun Home) will be playing Mary

Politics aside, I am glad Daisy won. Not only was her performace worthy, but her personal life was in termoil as her mom had terminal cancer (and died soon after) This musical, even with the Tony awards, never got the respect it should have being based on a children's book. While just about every Broadway musical was either filmed, or made into a movie, The Secret Garden- The Musical, never was. 2 years later, the definitive film starring Kate Maberly was released, but it was not the musical version. I saw Ms. Egan 3X on Braodway in this musical and 25 plus years later I am still waiting for a professional DVD release of the orginal Broadway performance..I am sure it exists somewhere...
@thesecretgarden3905 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 100% the musical is so much better than any of the movies. It definitely brings out the emotion of the story more. I wish we could get a DVD of the musical. However I heard in a article it is supposed to come back to Broadway.
@lilakylalives93265 жыл бұрын
japonaliya it’s probably in the archives for the New York public library but not everyone can just go there and watch for free. You have to have some sort of school project or something that requires you to watch the musical in order to see it

There's a movie version of the book coming again this year 2020 but it also doesn't seem to be a musical adaptation
@japonaliya4 жыл бұрын
@@HelloHello-tm7uc there has been many movie adaptions. In the late 30s with Shirley Temple (oops, maybe that was A Little Princess and the Secret Garden was Margaret O'Brien?) a 70s BBC version, and the best, the 1993 Agnieszka Holland version with Kate Maberly. Do we really need another movie?

Right! I saw La Chanze and I was like BULLSHIT! Both of them totes would have lost to Lea though.
@TheMusikman4873 жыл бұрын
Sometimes the producers of shows will petition the Tony nominating committee to put some of their actors into different categories where they might have a better chance of winning (especially if they’re billed below the title). Wins = publicity for your show. Everyone knew Lea Salonga would be walking away with the best actress award, so putting LaChanze and Daisy into featured actress would guarantee them a nomination, and possibly a win.
@5andup3 жыл бұрын
@@TheMusikman487 I cannot agree more👍👍👍 in the Oscars the same strategy applies... Viola Davis in 2016; Lakeith Stanfield this year for "Judas...," Juliette Binoche for "The English Patient" in 1996, etc.

does it bother anyone that Lachanze was nominated for best featured actress and not leading actress.... once on this island is "the story of TIMOUNE" im sooooo lost smh and you can see it in her face i would be mad too sis

Gregory B Me too!
@MarkvanBeelen4 жыл бұрын
I felt the same when I just watches this. If Timoune is not the lead in her own story, then who is? You can't compare Tumounde from OOTI with Martha from TSG, which was the role Allison Fraser was nominated for. And actually that goes the same for Mary Lennox. The story revolves around her and Archibald. You could say Lily is another lead and perhaps Neville Craven, but that's it. Mary is, just like Timoune, not a supporting (or in this case featured) character in her own story.
@keshaunconnor6064 жыл бұрын
On a podcast, the lead producer of "A Secret Garden" said that despite her being the lead, they submitted Daisy in the Featured Actress category because, in Leading Actress, she would've been up against Lea Salonga in Miss Saigon. It may have been a similar situation with LaChanze. Producers trying to give her a better chance at winning against a phenomenon.
@tomgallowitz4 жыл бұрын
@@keshaunconnor606 agreed Lea was unstoppable, they both would have lost if up against her, here at least one won

Lauren Goodwin She deserved it but she was clearly the lead of that show and robbed someone else in that category of the award. She was only billed as Featured because she was unknown and thus only eligible for the Tony that way.
@ChristophProbst9 жыл бұрын
ggfanjase - Right, I was thinking the same thing. She wasn't featured, she was the lead.

OK well lemme know when you achieve yours
@ggfanjase9 жыл бұрын
Lauren Goodwin Sit there with a straight face and tell me she belonged in this category and not Best Lead Actress in a Musical. She might've lost against Lea Salonga that year but it would've been more honest and not total category fraud. The quality of Eagan's work was excellent, the placement of her nomination was ridiculous.
