Daisy Mae achieved great fame as part of a country music duet with Old Brother Charlie (Arnett) starting back in the early 1940s and lasting well into the 1960s. (cont. below)
They were early members of Renfro Valley, a CBS radio favorite, and later performed on radio and television in places like Charlotte and Tampa. Their 1-hour TV show "The Home Folks" in the Tampa area was an immediate hit in the 1950s. Daisy's radio program in the 1960s, although country music-based, almost seemed to have elements of folk music as well.
This is an actual broadcast of one of Daisy Mae's great 15-minute WHBO radio programs from the 1960s, accompanied by some earlier photos of Daisy & Charlie and some old postcards of Tampa during the years that they lived and performed there.
By the time of this radio program the two were no longer married, but Daisy continued performing on the radio and making personal appearances all over the Tampa area.
Thankfully, a number of these radio programs have been preserved. Approximately 270 of these 15-minute shows have been preserved in .MP3 format onto 4 DVD disks. For a copy of these disks at no charge, please contact me, dwtpa97 "at" verizon.net (Use @ symbol in address.),
I hope you have enjoyed this great old show!
