Story: me and my Nana LOVE avocado toast, so we started growing the avocado seeds everytime after we ate the toast, and now, one of them that we put in the ground and put a milk jug top on it to improve humidity, it’s starting to get leaves! That was about two or so weeks ago 🥳
@bhavintandel63664 жыл бұрын
You'll have to wait for 10-15 years depending on how you care about it. Best is to buy a grafted plant which grows well in your area.

When we plant young trees (just planted 4 Citrus trees a few days ago) we dig 4' long by 3' wide by 3' deep. Put in Gypsum to combat this clay soil, a layer of straw, some veggie waist in the outskirts of the hole, a layer of composted soil mixed with native soil, then Azomite, Earthworm casings, Mycorrhyzae, then another layer of mixed soil, put tree in and cover with mixed soil. Layer of straw (hard to get wood chips here without having to load ourselves - in our 70s - unable to do that anymore) for mulch. Water and rest. Judi

We have a Hass avocado tree from seed I think its about 8 yrs old or so grew in a lg pot till a few yrs ago now its also about 10’ tall. We also bought 3 more a Catalina/Persea Americana 30 ‘X 20 & 2 just say Persea Americana 25’X25’ we did plant them on a slope (good thing) I’m learning after the fact shamefully. After the big “C” we decided to plant many trees, 2 Grapefruit, 2 Mango, 2 Fig, 2 Orange a Navel & Valencia, and we have two Meyer lemon trees, we even found 2 Apple trees for Fl weather Golden Dorsett & Anna. Oh & we replaced 2 wht vinyl patio doors newer but codes changed so used them plus plexiglass and enclosed a Pergola for a green house. Unfortunately we were repairing the home from a sink hole so extremely busy, plus chgd a sitting room to a bdr & made the spa area into a study. had wrkrs but so sloppy fired and redid all the wrk. Same on study except outer walls & windows & exit door. I think anyone w/a hammer calls themselves a carpenter today. So why learning about all the tree care after the fact. Good video thank you for all the great info! Will check out your others.

I'm in Georgia too! Dont give up! You can create a microclimate for them by planting against your house, a wall or under a large canopy tree such as an oak. Keep covered for the 1st 3 years or so during the winter. Try using a thick mover's blanket from local hardware store and use clothes pins or clamps fixed to the branches. Also add outdoor Christmas lights around the main trunk and branches. All of these steps are the same steps that I have used to protect my citrus trees. These are the same steps that others have used to protect their citrus as well! These steps will be fine for avocados too!

I am in Alabama zone 7 can I plant one today and what about winter do I cover it? It get freezing and snows rarely.
@kristyt63183 жыл бұрын
I'm in Alabama also, north. I just purchased a mexicola avocado tree as they are cold hardy. My concern is this past winter we had an unusual cold spell that I don't think the tree would survive. I'm hoping the tree is able to establish before we have another unusual cold spell. I have heavy clay soil, so I'll be planting my tree using a mounding method. I'll give the tap root about 2 ft of actual ground, the other 3 ft will be mounded. I'll also plant it as an under-story tree to help protect it from the winds and damaging uv rays we get here. Avocado trees seem to grow well as under-story trees per my research. I'll try to remember to update you next year and let you know what my experience is.
