Jakub Wilk the HD is technically a better reel internally. So with 5oz lures that might be your best bet. But I’ve used both in the 400 size for irons and surface irons are up to 5oz. Winn is 100% the winner (no pun intended) on looks. Ordered a Winn and drag was fucked up (tested 5lb max drag booooo) so sent it back but found an HD for $10 cheaper and just couldn't pass up the better internals for a cheaper price despite how dumb it looks on the outside, blue, gunmetal gray, with gold accents? Dafuq were they thinkin? Thanks for taking the time to make the video woulda really helped me out if you made it a couple weeks earlier hahaha. Woulda probably saved me some mental anguish wondering which one to get, but happy I got the HD, want the stainless steel for longevity. Butt seriously how is there only one video explaining the differences of the Lexa models out there?

That’s so weird that happened to your Winn. My buddy’s had the same problem but I’m pretty sure he sent it in and they fixed it. Idk what that could be.

Dirty Hookers - Yea definitely some good info thanks for the vid. Just got my HD in and max drag slips at like 8lb on a full spool (I tie the line to a pull scale and pull the line out with the drag turned all the way up ), no where near the 22lb rating. Even my tatula slips at 9lb and with my Abu BlackMax the line will break at 10lb before the drag even comes close to slipping (think I tested it at 14lb back when I used to have higher test line on it). So apparently the Lexa rated at 22lb has the weaker drag than the tatula rated at 13lb? I dunno I'm not sure how 8lb drag will actually equate to the water you know? Have you had drag issues with any of your Lexas or have you ever tested them?
@Dirty.Hookers7 жыл бұрын
Kent Yammo I’ve never tested mine. And my buddies that had issues was a different issue. It was like there was no drag when it was tightened down to full drag. I I have no idea what the issue might be with that. I wish I could help more. But as for mine the drag feels fine. I have t tested it but it feels fine and I’ve put my WN and my HD against 20+ lb yellowtail and I didn’t have any problems.

@@luevueee3004 the oil won't do any good if you don't clean the brake surface well. The residue on there is what makes the noise. You could have something more serious going on, but what you are describing is usually what I mentioned and common.

I bought the 8.1 HD recently. Do you think that is too fast for swimbaits for calico fishing?
@Dirty.Hookers5 жыл бұрын
Edwin Nah you should be fine. You could always do a slower retrieval rate while bringing in the swimbait which will help you find a rhythm to the retrieve. When the calicos are fired up you burn in the swimbaits anyways so the 8:1 might actually help out.

Lots of good bass and pike fishing the places ive lived in and might try to step it up to musky so i am trying to go a bit heavier this year with gear while still having some bass gear. @paulmorgan54256 жыл бұрын
I started serving my own reels. It's super easy, as you take parts off work left to right like reading a book. If the part faces the inside of the reel put it face down. This service video is really helpful, kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3PFg6R-psutfdE. If you fish it a lot, like I do, you should go through it every 6 months. When you break your reel down I think you will very be suprised at the amount of salt that's inside after just 6 months.

mnsportsman 700 yeeaaahhh. I definitely made this video way to early. I had a lack of knowledge on the reel and on the water when I made this about 2 years ago. Anyone who’s asked in any videos after this was put out, I’ve always said HD all the way. The original is still a good reel though. I haven’t been let down with it yet. But the HD is definitely way better designed and a lot more durable for the long run
@mnsportsman70055 жыл бұрын
Dirty Hookers I’ve had mine repaired over 3 times in less than a year and I barely used them compared to my HD’s. The brass/aluminum internals just can’t take the stress of big lures and blades. I haven’t repaired my HD’s once and I use them for 100’s of hours per year.
@Dirty.Hookers5 жыл бұрын
mnsportsman 700 you’re honestly the first person I’ve heard with this many problems with the original. I have 4 friends that fish it just as much as I fish my HD and they’ve never had a issue with it
@mnsportsman70055 жыл бұрын
Tony Gutierrez we’re talking musky fishing lol. Bass fishing doesn’t put half the strain on reels that musky fishing does. Throwing heavy baits and the pull of big bucktails is a little more stress. My Lexa HD’s are 10x better and have never had issues.
@mnsportsman70055 жыл бұрын
Tony Gutierrez thought you were talking largemouth bass at first. Yeah I have no problems fighting fish with them. It’s the repeated 1000’s of casts with big lures for muskies that it can’t handle and they wear out
