Daiwa Millionaire 7ht Mag pinion support gimmick exposed!

A short video explaining why the engineers at Daiwa have not fixed a non existent problem with the 7ht line of reels. After the purchase of this reel I found a so called pinion support bushing is available and began to reason why it was needed. After looking at the design closely I realized it’s position in the reel has nothing to do with support and will cause friction during retrieving. The main gears are fully supported by the bearings in the side plate and the shoulders at the base of the spindle that functions as nothing more than a “C” clip retainer which holds the main gear down to the brake plate. www.Blackdogtackle.com and PMR sales the pinion support bushings if you must have one!

Ive used these for years and with out the pinion support the steel shaft wears away the brass driveshaft resulting in the anti reverse bearing housing detaching from the side plate wrecking the reel I currently own the 7ht st at £500 each and they still require a pinion support. So much so Daiwa are repairing out of warranty reels for free due to this issue. I’m sorry sir but you have no idea what you are talking about.

I agree this gentleman needs to figure it out I have the same thing and I had no problems I sent it to dia wo and they fixed it but thank you for trying to show us something have an awesome day but I don't agree with him

If you cut that spindle down the reel,wouldn’t function the handle could not be attached 😂 the pinion support is vital to keep the shaft aligned and stop any fractional play which will push the main gear out of sync.

No, sorry sir, but you're seriously wrong. That gap between the spindle and the pinion has suffered wear and hence handle wobble on 7ht standard, 7ht turbo and 7ht mag reels. Funnily enough if you look at the 6hm which shares much of the same components it doesn't suffer from wear and handle wobble.

Thanks for the comments guys, I was hoping the Video would make things clear enough but apparently not. In the Video I made it very clear that the main gear is supported at the base of the stainless steel spindle at the top it’s supported by the anti reverse bearing so what you guys are describing makes no sense, I’m sorry but it just doesn’t! What you are describing is the Anti reverse boss is failing with way to much clearance in the side plate! This is why Daiwa is fixing these reels and they have discontinued them! The so called spindle support is a GIMMICK!

@@natesplace7809 when I get back home I'll demonstrate both a 7ht and a 7ht turbo with wear to the gear base caused by the gap between the spindle and pinion (and the highly visible handle wobble). I'll show you how the support alleviates that wobble. If you purchase a second hand 7ht it's common to see how the top of the spindle has distorted and mushroomed at the top (requiring filling). If you use one of these reels for a reasonable length of time you will get wear, wobble and eventual failure. Your views are sadly at odds with the UK casting fraternity. This is as well documented a failure on daiwas design as its possible to have. As stated, check the spindle /pinion gap on a 6hm, which funnily enough doesn't suffer from handle wobble or failure.

The point you're missing is that the pinion bearing failure is caused by the lateral spindle movement that you're missing. Fit the spindle support it hugely slows down if not obiviates the failure. Power handles just make the leverage on the spindle worse. Again, this never happened with the 6hm, which again didn't have that spindle pinion gap.
