Honestly, for me it’s a dealbreaker if I can’t fish braid on the reel. I love to see the spool being suitable for braid since mono or fluoro has way to little sensitivity, especially in windy conditions, compared to braid. Europeans fish braid for everything and as a fellow european I love to be able to put braid on a BFS reel.
@ShaneJMcNair5 жыл бұрын
So, to satisfy both braid & mono lines what would be the lightest material to make a spool without sacrificing strength? Great News Flash Release video, as always thanks for sharing.
@H8er-Maker5 жыл бұрын
Am I missing something, why do BFS reels use high speed gear ratios w/bigger spools? Both attribute to moving bait faster through the water. When I finesse fish I have to restrain myself from moving it, the last thing I want is more speed. Please explain these contradicting trends. Thanks man.
@THEREELTEST5 жыл бұрын
I think its for a couple of reasons, to make up for smaller diameter spools and bfs started out as pitching light lures for bass. theres alot of bfs reels now with slower gear ratios
@chuelee72015 жыл бұрын
It's quite possible that Roro might release a spool for the new 2020 steez air. I have the alphas ct sv + roro spool and it's amazing. Can only imagine what the Roro spool for the new steez will be. Hopefully it will be under 4g w/ bearing total.
@zajdabneeg5 жыл бұрын
I agree. Daiwa is not always about comming ready stock. They always leave open upgrade for them reels. Roro will make a 28mm spool in the 3 gram range for it.
@afonsokreling26925 жыл бұрын
I always watch your videos and I do like the content. But just a comment, I don’t think the weight difference matter so much here. Moment of inertia from a spool depended way more on how the mass is distributed around the axis than just the mass itself. I=mr^2. In this case they’ve reduced the diameter of the spool which will impact the moment of inertia much more than, for example, replacing a stainless steel shaft by an aluminum one and getting a couple grams there.
@afonsokreling26925 жыл бұрын
Notus Notus I get your point. A smaller diameter will also need to spin faster in order to provide the line. There are multiple factor that many times go against each other. My point is, only looking at spool weight isn’t enough the say the reel won’t be a great caster.
@afonsokreling26925 жыл бұрын
Notus Notus that might be a better option, because you won’t just be removing mass but also mass distributed away from the axis, without paying with line memory or spool speed. Isn’t that what Shimano did for the new Antares they just launched?
@shmaxx005 жыл бұрын
Decreasing spool diameter also means decreasing spool starting torque from the force, provided by the lure when you cast... Torque=force*radius... And yes, then the spool should rotate with higher speed for the same lure speed...
@THEREELTEST4 жыл бұрын
But remember I was wanting the Steez Air to cast 0.9 gram trout magnets better than my Aldebaran BFS with Avail spool. 6.6 grams aint gonna cut it no matter how small the diameter.

Stronger dense spool at the same time light vs. The t3 spool which is light but less dense but will not handle braid line as the braid line will crush the spool under tension.

Do you take durability into account? It's a G1 duraluminum spool. I'll take the durability over less weight if I'm achieving the same results. Spool weight is only part of the equation. That being said, I'm not getting this reel either.
@THEREELTEST5 жыл бұрын
I personally dont feel the G1 is more durable. As ive stated in the video, ive damaged my G1 spool on the SS Air I have and the Alphas Air just by removing the bearing even when protected with tape. Never had that problem with any other reels
@markhogquist20005 жыл бұрын
@@THEREELTEST I'm not referring to bearing removal. I'm referring to the actual strength of the spool. I don't do true bfs, nor do I care for heavily ported spools. Daiwas spool lips are indeed fragile, and they rarely survive a drop, but that's mostly user error. I've had no issues with crush or deformation. I'm more power finesse, and find the G1 1012SV and spool from the SV limited serve my purposes well. I feel braking systems, appropriate rod, casting motion - behavior, and sometimes spool bearings play a larger factor in results than the actual spool itself. Generally distances between many spools are relatively marginal. My point is that I wouldn't suggest or recommend not getting this reel, just because of the spool weight. None the less, this reel is ridiculously over priced. Plus it looks like an Okuma to me for some reason.
@THEREELTEST5 жыл бұрын
G1 is irrelevant because the supposedly "lesser" aluminum spooled BFS reels have never had any problems with strength. Its just a marketing ploy to justify charging more money. Also I stated in the video I wanted to be able to replace my Aldebaran (with the 4.2 gram Avail spool) to cast 0.9 gram trout magnets. Spool weight is absolutely critical for that, as ive tried it with the lighter Revo LTX spool (vs Steez Air) and it was not very fishable in my book.
@markhogquist20005 жыл бұрын
@@THEREELTEST I hear ya. Like I said, I don't do true bfs, but should I ever decide to, I now know somebody who can provide valuable insight. Thx
@ZETA14.885 жыл бұрын
@@THEREELTEST daiwa's spool bearing pin is located deep into the spool. From my experience you'd need a somewhat specialized pin remover to remove them without touching and preventing damage to the spool. Not so coincidentally daiwa themselves sell it, something along the name of SLPW Spool Remover or something.
@ginichi22375 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you... no sense that it costs so much... The aldebaran with that avail spool costs 200 less.. and that AliExpress spools are more than enough to trow 2 or 1,5 g lures. Additionally it weights like an aldebaran. The cast will be more controlled due to that small spool.. but 600 dollars to have a bfs reel that add nothing to other same category reels .. I am wondering why this thing will be special. I also think that braid can be used without problems with aldebaran or steez Ct
@raychoi49945 жыл бұрын
For me, Daiwa still has an edge for saltwater reels, but its freshwater reel is getting too expensive. You probably can get a 2020 JDM Met for 35000 yens and it is better than a 47000 yen Steez CT.

The Reel Test, If you have the ability to track sales. Please report back in about 6 to 12 months as to how well this reel is selling. Spool weight is not everything. KTF spool weights even more and casts like hell. Important is weight on the outside. Ktf uses heavy stainless shafts and superlight outside material. I belive this is also ktf spool and to give strenght they used ss for shaft and the rotation weight is very small and very small OD of spool will give incredible fast start. I had CT with tuning KTF spool and it is magnificent.

Reviews of weight doesn't show a performance improvement. Lighter weights is often due to weaker/thinner walls and/or materials. If you want to use super light weight spools, be prepared to get them dented, damaged, etc. I would rather wait for a comparison on the capabilities as opposed to just a weight difference.

because EU customers always use thin braid not mono or fluoro, and in the EU market, Daiwa is the bigget brand in every country... Big black-white D logo everywhere, media and fishing shops. Yeah, Daiwa is strong in marketing, Shimano is strong in develeopment. (sorry for my english i use g translate..)
@Benjamin-S5 жыл бұрын
DGxxxK1 I’d disagree. In Scandinavia and I think Germany, Abu and Shimano sell much better than any other brand. Normark, the distributors of Shimano in Scandinavia, are selling many many more Shimano reels than Daiwa reels. Abu is Swedish and that means they have a good grip around the Scandinavian area. We do fish braid on everything though. But I would lie if I said Daiwa is the biggest brand in Europe.
