Daiwa Zillion SV TW Final Thoughts and Review

The Zillions have always impressed me, had the 2007 JDM model with the 4:9 gear ratio, used it for over 15 years just oil the spool bearings after each use. I finally cleaned and re-greased the gear side and it was still in like new condition inside there. I was blown away by how well built it is. I still use it although, the Steez A TW has replaced it as my daily cranking reel. I'm getting ready to buy a JDM Zillion SV TW as I'm not impressed by the new JDM Steez A II TW.

The JDM Zillion is definitely awesome. Not worth upgrading to the Steez A II for performance.

I have 6 zillion old models with out t -wing,3 zillion PE Special 1 J-dream 5.3:1, 1 Crazy Crank 4.9.1, and 1 Type R … i love them ….perfect reels

I own the 10, 7, and 6 ratio zillions. Mechanically I have zero complaints, they are smooth with great casting distance and have been 100 percent reliable. I don't have giant hands so I wished they were a little more low profile like a lews but I'm really just splitting hairs. Are they worth the price? Yup all day long.

I have a Metanium and it can outcast the Zillion. The issue for me with the Metanium is that it's extremely difficult to take the side plate on and off to adjust the internal breaks. That's where the Daiwa reels got Shimano beat on the higher end. I do think that the Curado MGL is more on the water user friendly than the Metanium. It's Curado MGL's and Zillions for me right now.

I just received a brand new Daiwa Zillion 21 SV TW G reel ( ZLNSVG100H ) but without the cast control cap or the stem. Where can I order an authentic replacement cap and stem for it or any that is compatible? I think the Daiwa part number is H28-1201 but I’m not 100% sure on that or what the stem it covers is. This Zillion 21 is a pretty well known reel so I figured you guys might have a good idea of what would work here. Thank you!

for the price, it beats Daiwa high end Steez reel. It's really the best bang for the buck if you buy it from japan.

I 100% agree even though I’m typically a Shimano fanboy. The Curado DC is inconsistent. You’ll have 5 casts that are great and then the 6th cast is a backlash or a significant shorter cast. I’m done with DC until they come out with a new Mentanium DC. IC4 I’m not impressed with. I bought myself the Zillion but since I still have ice, I haven’t had the chance to use it yet but I’ve heard great things. I also like the fact it has a clicker drag 😁

what pound test you're using when fishing shore? seems to me i'd be out of line if i'm far casting...

I'm running 12lb and 15 lb fluorocarbon on my cast, and 10 lb flouro on my spinning. I fill the spool up about 80 to 85 percent.

I prefer the SV line over the DC line, you might not get the line capacity as the DC but you can throw a wider range of lures without the risk of backlashing. But that just my opinion.

Almost anything is better than a Curado DC. The spool is 50% heavier than the non DC version and this greatly reduces the castability for many applications. It just won't do what non DC reels from 25 years ago can do!!!

I love my zillions over my dc curado which I sold right after I bought my zillion. 1 st the dc noise not a fan. When I fish I like peace and quiet And the curado dc was not consistent with every cast and when it birds nest It was pretty bad. The zillion easy to use and used it all year and no birds nest really. Maybe tiny birds nest but so easy to fix. But up to you both good, just think sv spool is 🔥and more consistent with ever cast.

I can get this reel for 170 bucks. That’s why I’m here to see if I should get it. I’m more of a shimano guy but I might actually pull the trigger on this reel.

You might be able to find a used one at that price. If that's your budget I'd go with the tutula SV. They are really close and it's msrp is only 199. I think I got one of mine on sale for 175.

Between the tatula and zillion? You have better gears with tighter tolerance on the zillion. You also have an improved spool axle with more bearings. And i believe the improved sv boost braking. There are other things but I believe those are the heavy hitters. They do make a difference, but to most people they wouldn't notice much between the two in real world action.if you're a person that is considered about the small details, get the zillon. If you want a great reel that had pretty close to the same performance, get the tatula sv. I use both, and most people wouldn't notice a difference.

If my reel start skipping or missin a gear when I’m fishing Its when im catchin something and I’m worried about loosin the fish f the reel Haha just sayin
