Installing exact same one in my 72, LT4 setup :). Nice work

That's a sweet build you've got - coming along nicely! That Dakota vintage dash is everything. A quick comment on your low oil pressure... I've been checking-out a range of topics while planning a 6.0L swap on an old FJ40, and came across someone that had a similar low oil pressure issue. Turns out, sometimes while trying to get both screws well seated on the oil pick-up tube, the O ring can get compromised if not seated perfectly, causing oil seepage, and subsequently, low oil pressure readings. Hope that helps. Keep up the nice work. Looking forward to seeing more. Cheers!

I appreciate that tip. When I put in that new oil pump I did inspect the old O ring and did not see anything that would lead me to believe that it was compromised. Upon install i used caution, and I believe I selected the proper O ring as melling supplies 3 types. It is possible that the O ring may be the wrong one. As of now I get 45 PSI on start up, and hot idle is 15. interesting how many opinions you get as to what is normal.. when the synthetic oil warms up the viscosity does get thin.. Thanks for the note and I bet that LS will wake that old FJ up! what are you using for rear end and Transfer case?

Great setup. I have a terminator x and dakota digital rtx dash with bim box ready to install in my 90 fox mustang. Just a little nervous about wiring lol

Hey Matt, thought I'd let you know my LT4 Nova is running, big thanks for your tips along the way. I just posted a video of it running the new Magnuson 2650 blower. It barely fit under the stock (flat) hood. Dyno tune this week.

It’s been a couple years but I would move that whole fuel pressure sensor setup somewhere under the car as far from the exhaust as you can get it

Id like to see more on the splitter harness where the gauges plug into the holley terminator. I bought the BIM-01-02 module and not sure how to hook it up
@mattlind37243 жыл бұрын
Here is the CAN splitter from Holley. The Input wire from your BIM connector will connect to this. Your BIM connect will have 2 outputs to use. www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/fuel_injection/sniper_efi/sniper_efi_service_components/parts/558-465

Sweet build man! I would also like to know how tough it was to set up the Holley interface module. I have the RTX my Chevelle and getting ready to do an LS swap. As far as your oil pressure.. I think you hit the nail on the head, more than likely it's cam bearings. I went through two used engines except both of them were iron blocks 6.0s, cam bearings wiped out on both of them. Probably higher mileage engine than what you got but that oil pressure tells a pretty bad story. I've got a fresh build with around 35 PSI at warm idle. I would say you're probably looking at about 2k to freshen up the motor if you reuse the stock pistols. On a happier note please tell me all about how hard it was to set up that interface module!
@mattlind37242 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info, yeah maybe a refresh next year! And maybe a supercharger! As for difficulty on the holley interface.. its simple. Just make sure you get a splitter from the holley harness. The not so fun part is working on your back under the dash and wire tucking and zip tying. When you Ls swap you Chevelle, what's your fuel pump plan?

@@mattlind3724 Holley in tank EFI pump. They make one specifically for the GM A Body. Haven't got it in the car yet, but I've run it quite a bit on the run stand and it works flawlessly. Doesn't look like I can upload anything to these comments but find me on Facebook and I've got some pictures and videos "Danny Sisenstein". So does the Holly module connect to where the handheld unit would normally plug into?

So if I’m understanding this. To use with the Holley I need a bim unit and the dash will get most of its readings that way? Thanks

Any tips on how to get the gear selection to work right with overdrive? I'm running 4L80E and not entirely sure how the Dakota digital reads the shift linkage position. I'm keeping column shift also
@mattlind37243 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. The only readout I get is from the 3" touch screen on my Terminator X max. It shows me what gear the transmission is in, but does not show a PRNDL With the Dakota Digital and Shifter on the steering Colum I do not have a PRNDL selector anymore. I just shift into gear using neutral as a touch point. The only way I have seen an active PRNDL is moving it down to the floor shifter. I am not sure if Dakota Digital has anything available for that, however that might be a good reason to give Dakota Digital a call. I bet there is a way to do it. I am not sure how.

I was also thinking back. An issue caused me to have to pull my 4l80 out and the shop had to rebuild it after it was rebuilt and I installed it. Note The Vehicle speed sensor is also necessary for the transmission to understand how to shift. there are a couple of ways to tie that technology into an older dash. Assuming you are using an ECU with transmission control is ideal.. but if you don't already know.. there are 2 outputs on that transmission, both on the driver side. one at the center which is a transmission shaft sensor (Data only) the one to the rear is the Vehicle speed sensor (VSS). With that VSS make sure you inspect the hole and verify the exciter wheel is centered in the hole. Its just a sprocket that spins in there and creates a magnetic impulse to the sensor. If your Transmission came out of a 4x4 you are using a transfer case, you are probably good to go, but for me I took a 4x4 4l80 build and rebuilt it and changed the output shaft and there is a difference in the output shaft for the 4x2 and 4x4.. If that exciter wheel is not centered your magnetic sensor will not pick up the impulse.. let me know if you have more questions about that. most transmission shops will think the shaft is the same between 4x4 and 4x2. and they are not.

So all it took was that bim for the Holley to communicate to the Dakota digital? Does it come with the necessary plugs to combine the two?
@mattlind3724 Жыл бұрын
I bought a holley splitter wire. It Splits ecu to holley tuner, and 2nd wire goes to BIM. If you plug in a laptop to program, be sure to hook the laptop into the ecu. I have been told the ecu can get fried if you try to program on the splitter wire with the touchscreen attached. www.speedwaymotors.com/Holley-558-465-EFI-Can-Splitter-For-Terminator-X-And-Sniper-EFI,496820.html?CSEGoogle&CSE&CSEGOOGLE&gclid=CjwKCAiAxvGfBhB-EiwAMPakqvczQk8sKSZxDlSJ9mA8NbQ30CowgU4HQUyS7tyhQKdieNui6YGaThoCDq4QAvD_BwE

What about fuel gauge? Can you still use the fuel sender wire or do you have to have the terminator x read fuel level??
@mattlind3724 Жыл бұрын
The Dakota digital has a direct contact rail. It allows the fuel sender wire(Tan color) to be landed, along with the ground. I dont believe the holley terminator system has the ability to recieve fuel data. Here is the link for the manual describing it, It's pretty versatile. The terminator x Max will collect most of the sensors you need or want. Dakotadigita.com/pdf.RTXmaunal_main.pdf

Well that link won't work. Page 5/6 in the manual maps it all out for you. You cN download it on Dakota digital directly.

So is the BIM module required for any brand digital dash in conjunction with the terminator x harness?
@mattlind37242 жыл бұрын
Ok, I had to think this answer through. If you buy a holley ecu, it will have direct wire outputs for tach, volts, temp etc verify that with your terminator manual. Or read the open(non-terminated) wires It has leads to all the major sensors. I would probably suggest sourcing the guages you want and assume you can direct wire it. But to answer your question, you will have to call holley if the BIM speaks to other brands. There might be a wire harness specifically to do so. Hope this helps.

How does it read speedometer and oil pressure?
@mattlind37242 жыл бұрын
Speed rating is calculated from the transmission speed sensor and harness which is communicated through the Holley terminator x Max transmission control. The oil pressure along with coolant, rpm, and everything else is on the harness again, fed to the terminator x Max. The digital dashboard connects to the x Max ecu as well through an adaptor holley provides called a BIM connector. It serves as a plug and play system.
