thanks so much for posting this and helping people to understand this complex subject.really hope we can bring the american chestnut back and that the research can help with other native trees throughout the world.

Since you mentioned there is work going on with the american elm, my understanding is that the largest American Elm in Wisconsin is at the Indian Agency House Museum in Portage, WI, where it has been cared for and protected for many years and may be 200 plus years old. Could be of some value to the research you mentioned. They have a website and the tree is visible in some of the photos on the site, standing in the front yard of the Agency House. The House itself was built in 1832, and the tree was probably already there.

Any plans to help bring back any (or all) species of Chinquapin (or "chinkapin")? To my understanding, there are several such species of shrubs and smaller trees that are related to the American chestnut and which also have been suffering from this same blight. They also deserve to be restored as they serve different habitats/niches as compared to the American chestnut, though perhaps not as economically benefitial to humans.

Why don’t we use Crispr technology to neuter the fungus?
