When Dale passed all of NASCAR and the fans were hurting, and for Steve to go out and win Rockingham and Harvick to win @ Atlanta in the 29 for RCR it was like salve in a deep wound that helped any and all of NASCAR and the fans to heal from a tragic loss to the sport.

Park’s win, Harvick’s win, and Jr’s Daytona win all were storybook moments after Dale’s passing.
@blendezfamily87272 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Steve Park, driving for DEI, wins the first race after Dale was killed. Jeff Gordon, Dale’s biggest rival at the time, wins at Las Vegas (race #3). Kevin Harvick, Dale’s replacement at RCR, wins at Atlanta in career start #3 (in the race that Dale had won the year before). Rusty Wallace, one of Dale’s closest friends, wins at California on April 29th, Dale’s birthday - and Dale Jr. finished in the #3 position. And, of course, Dale Jr. winning at Daytona in July for career win #3 was the icing on the cake.

Grew up around short tracks, drove some on dirt then life came calling. Sr passed on my 25th birthday. Worst day ever until my dad's passing, but on that day in Feb '01 I turned the TV off right after the race finished and for some reason, somehow, I knew what happened. Helton's presser wasn't a surprise to me, to this day I can't understand why. I just knew it. Was a Sr fan all the way back to the Wrangler days when I was a kid. Michael's win that day obviously was overshadowed, Steve's win at the Rock and then Jr's win in July got me back into racing the next year. That whole year helped me to understand life's too short and enjoy life. Former car owner now but still a sponsor. Love the sport. 15 years ago I thought the good Ole days was the 80's and 90's, but these guys here in this vid, they're tough, paved the way to today. Early 2000's DEI success was the real good Ole days.

After meeting Steve and Kevin at the preview that year then just a couple of weeks later Dale was gone. Some reason when Steve was interviewing I got to stand there and talk with Kevin and had a moment together then Steve came back to the table and the 3 of us laughed and talked for a few. Little did we know what was about to happen. I'll admit I cried when Dale passed. Then the next week Steve wins Rockingham and that moment we talked all came rushing back at me and I bawled for seemed for an hour. I'm teary eyed as I write this. And then when Kevin won it all came back again. A special time for me thanks to Steve, Kevin and NASCAR for making it happen.

As a Driver, Team Owner and Announcer, Walturp could tell by the actions Schrader, the Track crew and 1st Responders that it was bad. Probably had a Scanner going to. I knew it was bad when they weren't showing Dale or his car. Usually they show the after crash , driver getting out of the car. Once Schrader started waving frantically, they never showed another shot. Then the Ambulance going off track at a slow speed convinced me. I had tickets to the Rock the next weekend.
