Great interview. I spent 37 years in the Army and I've peed in more cups then I can count. When it comes to the Army testing, when you are notified you've tested positive you really don't have a leg to stand on. By the time you find out your sample has been tested multiple times, with each test being more stringent than the previous. On top of that a doctor has reviewed your medical records checking for possible prescription issues. I think Jr hit it on the head. They started the program on a kneejerk reaction and didn't consider 2nd & 3rd order effects. It sounds like it's a zero tolerance policy, which is ridiculous to begin with. For example, by establishing testing threshold levels of the more common chemicals Jeremy's Adderall may have been within tolerance. The whole thin sounds fishy.

I listened to the entire first episode and Mayfield got railroaded based on a person vendetta by Brian France. It was, holy cow, corruption right from the top to purposely end a driver's career because he aired a car owner's personal dirty laundry in public. I wonder what Steve O'Donnell is going to say when he hears this, but basically Brian France had it in for Mayfield because France felt the car owners were the sport and drivers bit players that could be replaced. The minute Mayfield embarrassed Evernham, he put a target on his back and NASCAR, no doubt with pressure from Brian France, was going to make sure never raced in NASCAR again. Issues like this are why I'd like to see a driver's union so NASCAR can't get away with eliminating the right of a driver to negate their described sequence of events in a legal manner so easily. They kneecapped the man the second he signed the “hard card” as he called it. I also think NASCAR should overhaul the drug testing system and to be far more accepting of drivers using certain prescriptions that are necessary for their quality of life but do not affect their mindset on the track. They did this man dirty and I'd hate to see it ever happen again.

@@Str8upFacts I'm not saying I couldn't be wrong about this specific situation, but the general point stands. We need a driver's union and to allow drivers to compete if they take restricted medications for legitimate health reasons. For example, Matt Tifft couldn't race because he uses CBD for seizures. That's not right. If someone with ADHD takes Adderall to be able to focus, that's not wrong and it shouldn't bar them from getting behind the wheel, that is, if they aren't abusing the medication. If that has to come with increased oversight, I think the drivers would be very accepting of that, because nobody wants anyone that's under the influence of anything to be behind the wheel on a racetrack. But there has to be a line between health and competition, and competition has been given too much sway over health for drivers in the past.

Hopefully, he talks about the Pocono race with Dale Sr., that was when Mayfield showed everyone he wasn't going to back down. It always amazed me how he was able to get into the Chase when they ran Richmand. I know that what happened to him with the police bust at his house is not touched upon in this video, but he does claim that the drugs were planted by police when they searched for the car parts. In the pictures of him that I have found from that arrest he looks pretty much like he does now, just less gray hair. There were dropped charges, the police informant was killed in a police chase in a different jurisdiction, and it wouldn't surprise me if there was a plea bargain. He got a suspended sentence and unsupervised parole. What he talked about in this video is the same as he has said in the videos he posted on his channel, J2Mayfield. So far, it is difficult to prove that what he is saying is not true. Maybe we can see him run in the SRX series one day, it looks like he mended the bridge with Ray Everham.

Good ole J.M. I missed him the last decade of racing! I remember being on the track at driver intro's Talladega 2009 and yelling for him, my voice carried over everyone because it was so quiet when his name was called to come out. This was during the time all this was going on and no one knew if he was actually guilty or not? I always thought Jeremy was a good racer and just a cool dude to pull for!

I've always wanted to hear Jeremy's side and finally did, thanks for finally having him on Jr. This and quite a few other things has really turned me off from Nascar. Nascar is as transparent as the asphalt they race on. Ironically, look what happened to Bryan France. I could say more but will leave it there.

As a crew member during this time, I can tell you that NASCAR’s “random” tests were not random. Pre season every crew member had to get tested, then each week there was 5-10 random people. I never tested positive for anything, but one year I had 7 random tests. I have dry eye and my eyes are always red. I don’t take anything for it, never have, but I can see how people on the outside could look at my eyes and think I’m on something. I know several other crew guys who had many random tests through the season and other crew guys who never got the random test at all. Plus I had an official tell me straight up that it wasn’t random. He said there would be a couple random people but if any official though someone was on something and reported it to the series director, the crew member would be put on the test list that week.

Yeah nascar made an example from him I was driving at Nashville super speedway and that weekend evernham had his hand on Erin crocker leg in drivers meeting it was mine and her first big race I was battling with Chad Blount for the led and she basically cost me the win bye making it 3 wide going into turn one which she spun I missed her. Which put in a position to not win because of my tires and she caused the whole mess Kasey Kahn should have never brought her over to Everham it was there down fall if I would have won I was going to open that book.

I was too young to understand this whole aspect when this was going on. As I matured and learned all about it, I only saw it from NASCAR's side of the drug test controversy. I was slamming hard on Mayfield thinking his behavior toward Rusty Wallace in the early 2000's was the result of him taking stuff and why he lost his ride at Penske and Ray Evernham shouldn't have gotten him a chance. Now after listening to just this 14 minute segment, I realized that this was just all a setup to keep Jeremy Mayfield away from the racetrack.

I had a bizarre experience with LabCorp as well. Came up positive for cannabis despite passing a mouth swab 6 days before & a urine test 8 days after with other companies. Hadn't used anything but chew'n tobacco for 5 months, not even alcohol. Initially, I went to the wrong LabCorp place. I explained that to the receptionist lady as my reason for being late, whom then told me "that was the testing facility". I didn't tell her that I walked all the way through the back, cuz no one was at the front desk there. I never seen a "testing lab", just piles of closed boxes of test cups in a garage. There was also 3 women in separate offices that looked to be doing background checks & that was it. I have an under 2.5g of cannabis conviction from 20 years ago & now know that background checks are much cheaper & quicker than test kits. Cups they were using didn't have the test strips on the side either. I now have to refuse to work for any employer that uses this company.

@caseysmith5442 жыл бұрын
Not just a few but others in the sport who have no reason to be playing favorites that hurt the drivers, like Kyle Bush not being suspended at least a race for a wreak where he sent Jeff Gordon into the last bit of the wall without safter barrier on purpose during a dive Kyle Swerved into Jeff Gordon to avoid a wreak and turned into the wall almost on purpose or his constant running over other people's pit crew without enough of a fine to the point now the entire track wherever cars go on track they have to have safer barrier due to Kyle Bush with some places the pit crew get stuck between the safer barrier and the hard wall trying to avoid Kyle Bush. Or that year Joey Lagano tried to fight every single driver in Cup during a race, in Joey Lagano's earlier first few seasons in Cup.

From that and other news, I learned to wait because it's not about what you hear first, it's about the truth that comes out later. Just like how our justice system is set up, innocent until proven guilty. I'm so mad about how things turned out for him.

If this exact scenario were to happen nowadays with all the social media outlets. I think there would've been a far different outcome. I remember when all of this went down but like Mayfield said, the media/NASCAR pushed one narrative and nearly everything he discussed in this video was not disclosed to the public at the time. Every attorney in the lower 48 would be licking their chops if this happened today. NASCAR would be forced to "clean house" or risk serious dage to the brand. Great interview 🙏🏻

NASCAR has only truly gotten a drug suspension right ONCE... EVER!!!!!... And that was Tyler Walker. As for others: - *Tim Richmond:* His situation is well known with cold medicines & that deal - *Shane Hmiel:* Had Bipolar Disorder & never knew until after his ban; All the while being misdiagnosed with ADHD for years - *Aaron Fike:* Wasn't even caught by NASCAR - *Kevin Grubb:* Suffered from depression & had suffered head injuries in his career. After returning over 2 years later from the first suspension, NASCAR & the infield care center medics badly botched treating Grubb after a crash at Richmond for what turned out to be a concussion & instead claimed he refused a drug test. Having overcome self-harm due to drugs but not the depression itself, Kevin succumbed to his depression in 2009 (& a lot of that depression caused & amplified by NASCAR; They literally murdered Kevin... & I wonder if the same thing that happened to *Shane Sieg* as well) - *AJ Allmendinger:* Exhausted by pressure, was mistakenly given Adderall by a so-called buddy of his that he claimed was an energy pill. - *Tyler Dippel:* Suspended for someone else's meds left in his truck. Quickly overturned - *Bayley Curray:* Suspended for an energy drink... I am not joking. - *Caesar Baccarella:* Suspended for a workout supplement... Not joking on that either. The Kevin Grubb Tragedy is the reason I did a complete 180 on NASCAR's drug policy. It's also the reason I'm the mental health advocate I am today... I will never trust NASCAR in regards to that ever again.

way overdue conversation and the pitfalls of a company starting a random drug testing protocol and not a single person in Nascar management understanding that there needs to be redundancy when a failed drug test happens the absolute need to send it out to a reputable drug testing lab. This ignorance happens every single day and destroys soo many lives and you would think that a multi-billion dollar company like Nascar would have done their homework and research so this wouldn't happen and the company wouldn't look like chumps. great video, everyone keep yourselves and love ones safe and healthy.

Whenever a company or organization implements a drug testing policy it’s supposed to set up a clear and open set of testing procedures and protocols , the problems comes in when those protocols are not being followed and that company or organization refuses to acknowledge that and shifts the blame onto whomever is being tested. The whole “there is no such thing as a false positive “ is what can destroy the credibility in a drug policy
