Pat Tillman said the same thing until Rangers shot him 3 times in the head less than 10 yards away. Then burned his body armor and uniform in an apparent attempt to hide the fact that he was killed by their own. So much for the Ranger creed.

All of them have their pros and cons. I looked at the Green Berets I looked at the seals and then I looked at the mission statement for the 75th Ranger regiment. Also saw that a whole lot of guys from the 75th Ranger regiment moved onto Delta the cool thing about the ranger regiment that I liked was that their mission statement was pretty simple direct action pasta rescue airfield seizure and we started getting into some tier one stuff probably did more tier-1 missions than any other unit in the long run of that craziness probably started about 2008 and on we started just the whole mission statement and the training and everything we were doing started changing. But again with any Special Forces Unit that you work with and go to you're going to be working with all of them together. I worked with steel teams I work with Oda teams I work for the Marine Raiders in Helmand Province I worked with Delta teams you're all under us Socom so you end up doing a lot of joint operations stuff and a hell of a lot of qrf'n for each other. I think there should be an option for service personnel to at experience a combat orientated role. There probably should be more elite forces as well that do not need to be at the level of "special forces". Services in the past used to offer shorter service term contracts so as to get young people to commit to service. 2 years looks better to may people that want to do their country proud compared to a 5 year service.

That's their own fault for either not doing their research properly (in the age of the internet, there's no excuse) or letting recruiters pressure them into going open contract/picking an MOS they didn't want. They should've said thanks but no thanks. You can get infantry (0300) guaranteed in your contract when you enlist in the Marine Corps, which guarantees an infantry MOS , but not a specific role in the in the infantry. Most end up as riflemen (0311s).

1st Batt Combat Medic here. Speak for yourself. I had a college wrestling and bodybuilding back ground. I ran a lot of long distance at certain points of my life before joining after 9/11 as well. 9/11 changed the game entirely. Lots of really smart, older twenty somethings going Ranger because it's the quickest way into combat. I was the very first 4 week RIP class. Before that, RIP was 3 weeks. Obviously now, it's RASP. My point being, went from RIP to Ranger Medic hold, to Pre Ranger School, to Ranger School, to SOCM or Special Operations Combat Medic course. I was a physical freak. 124 push ups on the PT test, 109 sit ups, 11:30 2 mile and 40 pull ups. The SOCM course is Rangers, Green Berets, Navy SEALS, Marine Force Recon and a few others not worth mentioning. We once raced around our compound. HUGE egos there since it was multiple units and branches of the military. I'd say it was about a mile to a mile and a quarter around the compound. I beat EVERYONE. Yeah... that's right, 1st place. It was great because the last portion was uphill and i just pulled away from everyone. 2nd noteworthy occurrence there was the 3 mile ruck runs we'd do in the trails in the woods next to the compound. They had a scale and you had to have at least 65lbs in your ruck. We're talking 50-60 people in the class. I came in top three every single time we did those 65lb, 3 mile ruck runs. One of the coolest/funniest parts about doing those is that we would sometimes have 82nd Airborne running in formations in the woods in their PT uni's. We were in our BDU's with boots and 65lb plus rucks and those of us who were fast would run right by them. I wonder what they must have thought.

America's first special forces, the US Rangers were created, trained and advised by the British Army Commandos in 1942 Achnacarry Scotland. The 1st and 29th Rangers were born. Direct copies of the Commandos. These got disbanded, and later used their new Commando skills to create the 2nd and 5th US Rangers in 1943. "Ranger" was selected because of the British colonial Rogers Queens Rangers (Scottish border Rangers). 8 British advisors accompanied the US Rangers at Point Du Hoc aswell as 3 SWANS. US Green berets, Marine Raiders, US Seal OG also all trace their heritage back to the Commandos. 🇺🇸

It's the same in the Army. If u fail RASP then you're going conventional force but your job will be the same as your original MOS or u may get assigned a new MOS depending on the Army but most likely u will stick to your MOS as the Army doesn't waste the time and money that they spent training u. If your MOS was 11b and u failed RASP, you'd be an 11b in an infantry unit.

ASVAB is everything. Everybody knows that you have a 85% chance of failing Seals so you have a MOS according to your ASVAB scores to fall back to. If you score low in the ASVAB you can still join the NAVY but you will be undesignated after Boot Camp. That means you have NO skills for a technical school (MOS) and you go to the FLEET to learn skills and see what you can learn. It's good for some or bad for others. It depends what you make out of it. Now Boot Camp is were you test if you want to tryout Seal. You pass and if you are undesignated you don't go to the Fleet after Boot Camp. You go to Seal training and if you make it then the Seals will train you in a specialized job in the Seals, could be sniper, diver, medic and others in what will be your specialty in the Seals. If you fail Seal selection and are undesignated, then you go to the fleet to learn a skill and go from there. I went in the Navy with a MOS guaranteed based on my ASVAB scores. I had a choice to take the Seal test in Boot Camp and if pass, I would go to A school after Boot Camp, then Seal training and if I fail I would go to the Fleet with the MOS I went to A school to. By the way, I didn't take the Seal test in Boot Camp. 85% chance of failing is not the odds I like in anything in life so I skip but I knew the pipeline and consequences if I did and failed.

@deathfire096
@deathfire096 Жыл бұрын
@@bighands69 First, you don't join the Naval Special Forces to be infantry. They are tactical operators. That's like joining the Army to be a submariner or join the Air Force to drive tanks. If you want infantry you join the Army or if you like infantry and ships and ocean you join the Marines. Marines are part of the Department of the Navy. They are the amphibious infantry of the Navy. You don't like ships or ocean then go Army, stay away from the Marines and you never join the Navy to be a infantryman, they have NONE. Second, all branches have their administration fields and combat fields. Both are needed to run the branches from top to bottom and depending on your ASVAB scores you can work on either fields. Trust me, the military needs their administration side to run the military and take care of the needs of the military, members and family. Without that nothing runs not even the baddest unit in the military. So putting down those jobs is silly. Third, even if you fail SEALS (BUDS) you have a chance to stay in the Naval Special Forces community as a tactical operator as a Diver, EOD (Explosives), Rescue Swimmers (rescue Seals, pilots and just about anything in the water) Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewman and since all of them all Naval Special Forces you work with Seals to get the mission done. You can also join the Seabees. They work a lot with Marines and We all know the Marines do a lot of amphibious infantry of the Navy, you will be deploy a lot with them and also do Navy stuff. If you fail those training then special forces isn't for you, go serve in the regular military. If you fail Ranger training then special forces isn't for you and go join the regular Army. If you fail BUDS depending of the circumstances (medical or attitude) and depending in your ASVAB scores you are given choices of trying out for another special forces field in the Navy or go regular Navy either administration or tactical. Some people tryout BUDS and realize they don't want special forces community and go regular Navy. It depends on the individual. Other realize they are not good enough to be a Seal but like to stay in the special forces community in something less demanding but to say all people that fail BUDS goes to a desk is false.

@@bighands69 Seals are not infantry. That’s basic regular Army and Marines. There is no infantry in the Navy. Seals are tactical operators under Naval Special Forces. You don’t tryout with the Seals to do basic infantry operations. None of the Naval Special Forces have infantry part of their training for the exception of Seabees whom work closely with the Marines but Seabees are regular Navy not special forces. My point is this guy join the Navy without knowing what he was getting into or his options. There are other fields within the naval special forces if you fail BUDS that is less demanding and shorter pipeline like Rescue Swimmer, EOD, Diver, Special Warfare Combatant and all of them work with the Seals. If you can’t pass any of those trainings then special forces isn’t for you and join the regular Navy just like if you fail Army special forces then do regular Army job which is basic infantry. That’s the entry level of the Army and Marines . This guy was misinformed by the recruiter or he thought he would make Seal 100% when 85% fail but you don’t join to be a Seal to get Infantry training. Seals don’t do that or march.
@starshockey11
@starshockey11 Жыл бұрын
Yes. This is truly what separates BUDs from any other career fields/ pipelines in both a good and horrible way. Not only does everyone in their mother want to be a SEAL and career field is severely overmanned. The instructors are looking for any reason to drop you and never give you a shot to come back. Just passing and not quitting are a thing of the past. If you get hurt you usually have one cycle and then it’s bye bye to the fleet The Navy then uses the failures to fill their needs within less desired jobs like Undes Seaman- a glorified janitor on a ship. When you fail BUDs it isn’t just washing out of your desired career , it is literally the equivalent to a prison sentence. Probably worse actually when you consider how much you work compared to prison. Many BUDs failures do go on to other communities and excel there tho. I think the high pressure from the level of performance the community attracts along with the dynamic with the fleet creates a level of seriousness that can’t be duplicated elsewhere.
@deathfire096
@deathfire096 Жыл бұрын
LOL. Buds failing these people is NOT a death sentence. It saved their lives and the lives of others. You don't want to put people who don't belong there in that environment in real life because their egos got hurt or they have feelings. They are NOT good enough and it's better for them and everybody. Go do another job in the NAVY for the country and yourself. It's all about your ASVAB scores. If you don't want bad options then don't rock the ASVAB test and don't act like the world owns you something. I'm sure every branch has their low end jobs for the people with low ASVAB scores. Is not a death sentence, it's a gift. Any job in the military is a learning experience and you meet a lot people with knowledge that you will absorb from them. Any job. You get paid every 2 weeks, , you get full medical and dental benefits , 30 days a year paid vacation, free housing, free food, base benefits and your college paid for by uncle Sam and federal jobs priority when you get out just for 4 year service to the country and some people complain. Good luck in the civilian world if you can get a base entry job with those benefits. Be humble and take everyday in the military in something to learn and take with you when you go back to the civilian world. Not everybody can be a Seal, Ranger, Delta, Green Beret, PJ, Top Gun pilot or a nuclear submariner. So what? Find something that you can do and be good at it and grow especially if you are very young with just a H.S. diploma with little to NO skills. Take the opportunity in the military to learn. Everybody that failed BUDS didn't belong and it saved their lives. The lucky ones in my opinion. The unlucky ones are the Seals that died in battle or training since it's a long pipeline or get physically, mentally and emotionally a wreck that even their families pay for life.

In the Navy based on your Asvab scores you qualify for rates (MOS). During Boot Camp they ask you if you want to tryout for Seals. You go pass a test given by Seals in Boot Camp and if you pass then you go to A school and when you pass then send you to Buds. You fail, you go do your rate that you went in A school for the remainer of your contract. There is NO infrantry in the Navy, unless you can float on the water like Jesus. The infantry of the Navy are the Marines. That's why they have a big anchor in their symbol. Seals are not infrantry. Navy already has infantry with the Marines. Seals are a special operations force. Infantry has the mission of taking and more importantly hold an area. SEAL teams are to hit a target by surprise and hard and almost immediately leave the target area and other missions like rescue and reconnaissance. Anything in the water, shipping lanes , ports and ships that's what Seals do best. They are Navy.

the part he's not saying out loud is you don't just "fail" BUDs. You don't make it because of 3 general reasons. Quit, dropped based on personality stuff, or fail jr. college level academics. Rarely do people fail BUDs because of injury, they'll roll you into another class. It seems like what he's saying here is he wasn't sure he could hack it and he didn't want a loser job in the NAVY if he quit, and I say yes, this is EXACTLY why BUDs is structured the way it is. ONLY the guys willing to die or won't quit for any reason for the teams make it, this guy clearly wasn't that. He chose Army, correctly.

@@deathfire096Canada is not a real military? Well, that's a great way to insult and dismiss an entire country's armed forces as being a joke( which I know you didn't say in those exact words but that's what you're basically saying when you say that the Canadian military is not a real military). Canada has one of the best top-tier Special Forces military units in the world( Joint Task Force 2/ JTf2) and even the the Navy SEALs and Special Forces and Special Operations military units of other countries respect them. You're certainly entitled to your own opinions but what you're not entitled to are your own facts. Canada DOES have a real military but I would definitely agree with you how each American branch of the service has their own community, heritage and history. There's really no need to go denigrating the militaries of other nations( and Canada is a NATO ally and ally of the United States). People make fun of the Canadian military so much that now it's to the point where it's no longer even funny anymore.

@@JR-ju3kj Jesus! When I say Canada is not a real military like the U.S. because of it's size, depth, spending or deployments around the world. My answer was to your suggestion that the U.S military should be like Canada in structure. Add the U.S. military branches have a long history of wars and heritage to just get rid of and have 1 branch, 1 uniform and 1 community. The U.S. shouldn't be trying to copy Canada. Keep the branches separate because it's big and a long heritage each branch that differ from each other. Add that Canada only goes to war with NATO and they basically assist the U.S. and before that they assisted the British Crown against the U.S. and before that they assisted the Empire of France. Canada has never fought a war by themselves for over 400 years and without the U.S./NATO, Canada has too small of military to take on Russia or China or run NATO. Basically, Canada's defense relies on the U.S. U.S. budget is 32x more than Canada. Canada doesn't have any Nuke. This is when you go to a recruiter in a branch and don't know anything about that branch. It's like going to the Air-Force recruiter and asking to be a submariner if you don't make PJ's. LOL There is NO infantry in the Navy like there is NO fleet in the Army. By the way, the Navy doesn't use the word MOS, they use Rating and based on your ASVAB scores you can pick your job in case you don't make Seals or if you make it and have to be dropped for medical reason later you can do a job in the Navy and serve your country. If you don't make Seals it's obvious special forces isn't for you. Go do something else that you are good at. There is no mini-Seals or almost a Seal or good enough Seal dropouts units in the Navy. If you don't like the water, stay away from the Navy.

Affirmative. Way back in the day when they were transitioning from UDT to SEALs, basically taking frogmen & giving them extra training, the land portion of their mission set & TTP were taken straight from the Reconnaissance community of USMC. It's even in the old Navy SEAL manual (talking like 1960s copyright). When the Marines were told it would take a year & a half to 2 years to turn a sailor into this new thing called a "SEAL," they laughed & said they could take a base Fleet infantry Marine, polishing patrolling & demolition skills along the way, sending him to jump school into the bargain, & give DOD what it wanted in 3 months! This was a long time ago, like very early 60s. Alas, President Kennedy's directive was that each branch put forward troops capable of conducting unconventional warfare, UDT was the ONLY community in the Navy remotely close to being suitable for that, & so the SEALs got stood up as UDT with what was part of USMCs mission in hand (what Recon had been doing since WWII). There were UDTs in service alongside SEALs till the early 1980s, 83 I believe. Then they were stood down. SEALs only from that point on. So the Corps did indeed have small, clandestine commando units, patrol teams, in Recon (Force Reconnaissance Companies & Division Reconnaissance Battalions). They still did the work, for the Marines, while the Navy got a new hybrid UDT/Recon unit they called SQUEALs. I mean SEALs lol. The Corps simply lacked the political juice to stop what was a President's desire, & here we are.

It is. There's no water portion. That being said, Rangers historically were some of the most in shape special operations guys in any branch because the pt was very tough and the standards were very high. Now they have some kind of Ranger workout regiment they're supposed to follow. At least they did when i got out in 2007. Not sure how that's gone. I went to SOCM or Special Operations Combat Medic course at Ft. Bragg. That's Marine Force Recon, SEALS, Rangers and Green Berets. We had a race around the compound, which was 1-1.25 miles roughly. I beat everyone. I was a Ranger. We also had a 3 mile ruck run with 65lb rucks that we did in the woods next to our compound. Out of about 50-60 dudes in the class... i came in top three every single time. So say what you want about Rangers.... if you haven't been in, you really don't know jack shit.
